It would look better if you had the return address imprinted on the envelop, but if things are getting too expensive, labels will save you money. Just buy clear lables so they don't detract from the beauty of your stationary.

It's an envelope. Nobody is going to keep the envelope from your invitation. In fact, very few will even keep the invitation. Weddings are needlessly expensive because there's some tradition that says every little detail must use the best available option.
Ask yourself a question... will the day be any less special for you because you used address labels? If the answer is no, then do it. It's your day. Do it your way. Spend more money on the stuff that's important to you. If you think the labels are too cheap, then hand write them. If you don't, use labels.
We bought templates and printed our own cards. Addresses and return addresses were both on labels. Out of 125 sent out we got exactly zero complaints.

I agree- it depends on the formality of the wedding.
However, a large wedding will make for a lot of writing! I can see why you'd want to avoid that. I have three suggestions for you:
1. Run the envelopes through your printer, use a font that looks hand-written.
2. Hand-write the return address once, and have Staples or some office supply store make you a custom stamp you can use for the envelopes.
3. CLEAR return address labels, in a script.
Each of these will be easier than writing, but will still look appropriate (more so than a white return address label).
Congrats on the wedding!

It may be easier, faster, and possibly cheaper to get envelopes pre-printed with your return address. If you don't like that option, ask the people who are making your invitations if they can make you address labels or find a selection of clear labels with a simple, but elegant, black font on it. They'll look like they were printed and they're very tasteful.

I think it would be absolutely fine to do that. I would, however, use some nice labels that coordinate with the invitations. You probably don't want to use those free ones that are sent by various organizations! :) A nice label is not going to turn me off on an invitation. I'd think it was smart that you saved yourself some time!

Etiquette dictates that this is NOT ok. The wedding invitations should be hand addressed. You do not have to hire a calligrapher but just a simple, neat handwriting is fine.
This can be quite the chore but if you want to go with traditional etiquette, this is how you do it. Have friends and family assist you with this if you need help.
I realize this may not be the answer you would like to hear and one that is not convenient, but this IS what is proper etiquette.

It's best to have your return address on the invites too in case the stickers are lost.

If you are having an informal wedding then yes, use the labels. But it does look much nicer to have the envelopes hand written. Practice your hand writing and do it yourself or have someone with nice cursive writing do it.

Yes, just be sure they arent busy and bright. Make sure they blend with the envelope or are wedding themed.

We bought address labels that were clear and in a font that matched the calligraphy used on the address on the front.
