the taser is a very effective tool , " ride the lightening" is a requirement of our department , before a officer is permitted to carry the x26 , i personally have never had to use it , being that my four legged partner is normally more then enough to take the fight out of people before they act , also not saying I'm robo cop here , but 30+ years of martial arts training , I'm not your average police officer .

Our agency has also gone to this system with exceptional results.
As "Dog Love" indicated the "riding the lightening" or as we say "taking the ride" many have become familiar with its use personally or through fellow inmates at the metro jail.
Though in my particular job, I've only resorted to its use once, it was extremely effective with a combative suspect. Others in my agency have had more frequent uses. This taser has been instrumental in a minimum force device despite what some "naysayers" complain is the cause of medical issues.
There has been NO supporting evidence that the taser use is of a PRIMARY cause of medical issues to my knowledge.
Best wishes.

It's not the voltage that makes a taser dangerous, it's the amperage. The X26 has a high voltage, but low amp output. This makes it effective as a tool for law enforcement, as it will incapacitate a subject, but not kill them. If you're making your own taser, you would have to be sure that your amp levels are low, otherwise you'll easily kill yourself or your test subject.

I carry one. In our agency we had to "ride the lightening" as they say to get certified to carry them. Believe me, it is insanely painful. You pray for death.
I will tell you that since our agency began carrying them, assaults on police are way down. Just the verbal threat of the Taser will cause 99 % of the offenders to do what ever you tell them to.

We have them.
The last time I used one was on a man who was high on PCP, who had just beaten his wife half to death. He informed my partner and I that he knew karate and was going to kill us both.
The gentleman sat on the couch with his arms folded across his chest and dared us to make him move.
My partner unholstered the taser and explained the consequences of being tased, and we asked the man to get up and come with us quietly.
His response was to jump up off the couch, go into a karate stance and yell "kiyah!" at us. So, my partner tased him.
He came along quietly after that.
