You would think in this day of age, with all the intelligence and technology we possess that religion would have more or less died out. Why do people still bother following it? Shouldn't we all just accept that life is for living and not believing (in ancient myths)? Theres people who stand outside our church preaching all day long, quoting the bible and shouting to the public that theyre all sinners and should find god...shouldnt these people be sectioned? Kids throw eggs at them and they still carry on! Get a grip!

Brainwashing partly, mostly its just a cultural thing that lingers on. I believe that we are not long from the total fall of religion. That is why the believers of all stripes are in such a frenzy. Nothing more dangerous than a wounded beast.

Actually this isn't the first time in history that this has happened. Before the flood of Noah's day he was a preacher of righteousness when they went into the ark it wasn't raining and he asked if anyone else wanted to come.
But they were laughing at him. Until it started raining.

Another time Lot went out and told people that God was going to destroy Sodom and Gamorrah and begged his sons-in-law to come out of the city with them. They thought he was jokeing and laughed at him. Until fire rein down on them from the sky. Probably astroids.

Then when Jesus was on the earth he said after my going away the Romans will come and the temple will be torn down and not a stone left upon a stone and anyone in the city will die. So the true Christians left and hid in caves in the mountains. Everyone laughed at them just before the Romans came and dasamated the city. Killing nearly everyone in the city. He also pointed to a last days to allow wickedness on this earth.
Then he said there would be a great tribulation in which most people will die in the last days of a very wicked world.
Matthew 24:21 This tribulation would be so great if God didn't step in no flesh would be saved. Before this time in human history it would not have been possible to kill all flesh off this earth but now we are on the threashold of an all out nuclear war in which everything would be destoryed and left uninhabited for over 200 years. How did he know we would reach this time in history? So now again people are preaching repent turn around and get your sins forgiven because the time to be saved is getting ever shorter.
So this is the time when the governments of this world it says in the bible will turn on all religion and destroy it to make peace. That is the only way they think they can stop war. So soon religion will stop. But then right after that Armageddon.
Only those right with God will survive this one last final war.
So keep laughing when it happens you will need a good sense of humor.

Because religion is the best path for the life to walk on. Some religions are just for some periods but there is a universal religion which was the best, is the best and will be the best. If you follow justly you will see the difference. This religion is independent of time. Whether 1000s of years ago or after 1000s of years, people who justly follow the religion will become successful in this world and Hereafter.

You make some interesting points here.
--Why do people still follow religion when it was put in place 1000s of years ago to maintain order?
Well, that is your definition of what religion is for. Most people that follow religion don't believe that it was originally "put in place" to "maintain order." Was Jesus Christ preaching about loving your neighbor and seeking the Kingdom of God just to maintain order? I don't believe so.

--Why do people still bother following it? Because to many people, intelligence and technology don't negate the fact that God is a real factor in their lives. I've learned a lot about science and technology, but I still feel a close relationship to God in my life. He has been there for me in a real way that I can't deny.

--Shouldn't we all just accept that life is for living and not believeing (in ancient myths)? I'm not sure I know what you mean by that. Life is for living? Does that mean you can't believe in anything? Mankind has known of God since the beginning. Just because ancient peoples believed in God doesn't mean that he doesn't exist. Oh yes, now we are so smart that we don't need God anymore.

You ask if the people standing outside "our" church should be
"sectioned"? First of all, if you are referring to "our" church, why do you go to church if you don't believe in God? And what is sectioned? If they believe their message is important, then getting eggs thrown at them shouldn't stop them.

Speaking of eggs, which came first, spirituality or religion?

What you see on the street corner is religion. What you see in Jesus is spirituality for the soul of humanity.

Even Stephen Hawking, world's leading scientist on cosmology and former devout atheist, has said to say there is no God is childish. Go figure.

i do no longer see that outfits. I see a astonishing, proficient, humorous guy. i like ya merely the form you're, ((((((((((Jack)))))))))). No faith, no affliction can replace that. And, to be honest, i do no longer provide a rat's asss what any faith has to declare approximately HIV - or homosexuality. So, i won't be able to particularly say how this is been prompted by ability of it. overall, faith maintains to be ordinary in an afternoon and age while humanity must be previous such archaic questioning as a results of fact human beings like to have an excuse to choose others - a minimum of, it is optimal to the Abrahamic religions. And, I say "screw 'em".

First of all, you say it was "put in place" to maintain order. Clearly that is not historical. Jesus was a real man, God in the flesh, who walked among us. People witnessed his miracles. People witnessed his resurrection.

Secondly, people like you will never understand because you have a cold heart. Luke 8 says: "Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved." and even better is 1 COR 2 which says "But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised".

This world will tell you that to be "intelligent", you must not believe in God. That is the foolishness that God speaks of - that you allow your hearts to be hardened to the truth that you might live IN the world, with worldly lusts and pursuits. You reject him because you think to believe in him is foolish, but he says the truly foolish are those who do not believe.

You must have the Holy Spirit to even understand any of this. I pray that you will read the bible - especially the new testament. I don't see how anyone can read those words of love and peace and not believe. I challenge you to say one simple prayer - ask Jesus to enlighten you and let Himself be known to you if He is real. And may God bless you - even if you don't want to be blessed.

Yep it is a shame, but only highlights that Humans haven't evolved socially enough yet.

The fact that religions is still relied on by most humans, in order to stop them from raping and pillaging and creating a general nuisance, shows that we as a species need to continue evolving, hopefully towards a more reasonable, peaceful society.

Unfortunately I don't think that is ever going to happen, because educated, chemically balanced people tend to have fewer children than uneducated nuts. So the laws of natural selection will one day weed out smart people.

Because we all still DIE, even with science advancement and even after 1000 years. You're giving people 1000 years ago little credit and assume that now we are somehow smarter or better than them. We may know more, but to assume that the human brain is actually capable of greater processing today is actually flawed.

Besides, religion and spirituality are normal in human nature. We all live with purpose, and what that purpose is, you have to find for yourself. There are many purposes that are lost and useless, like drawing on the sand and the sea comes to wash it away. Those that live without purpose are sad and lost people who most would consider crazy. Why? Because there much more to human intellect and spiritual fulfilment that has ever been discovered yet.

We all see a purpose for our lives and we want this purpose to last beyond what and who we are. A higher purpose.

You see, even our bodies are terminate ill. So to live for yourself alone is also not as great of purpose than to live for something that will last for always. This is why people want to believe in God, and this is why God is so important to many people's lives. They seek a higher purpose in life.

Those that choose not to seek "God" they will seek something else. For you it may be science or technology, or it may be family or profession, or it may be sex or career. Whatever it is, no other purpose can be as simple to follow or as rewarding as Heaven and the promise of Eternal Life.

Religion is a fact of life. It appears that science and technology is your religion, although it has not answered your question, which is based on the idea that man created religion. There is considerable proof that religion exists beyond man, that there is God, and has taught me to believe that what you call science is false.
