Do you know several mainstream churches are looking at homosexuality in a new light and no longer considers it to be sin or condemned in the Bible. Their scholars have searched the original texts and come to a different conclusion than the traditional fundamentalist view.

In your opinion are these churches wrong? Are their scholars not as knowledgeable as yours?

Methodists, Episcopalians, Some independent Baptist Churches, United Church of Christ, Universalist and the Metropolitan Community churches all have churches that open their doors and welcomes gay people into the full life and service of the church?

Do you know that Southern Baptist churches used to think that slavery was ordained by God..but, their scholars then took another look at the scriptures...(albeit after slavery ended)...

Should you not respect the views/beliefs and convictions of others?

When posted yesterday, several said that teaching to what a congregation wants to hear is wrong...

But, how many churches today preach against divorce? I Corinthians 6:9 says adulterers, (divorced/remarried folk) will not inherit the kingdom of God..

gluttony is a sin, but how many pastors rail from the pulpit about this...because so many are fat?

Stealing/bankruptcy is a sin...one of the ten commandments...but, pastors shy away from this too?

Isn't this a double standard?

Well, I'm not a fundamentalist Protestant anymore. I suppose I was.
I think that we should never say "Never" and we should always question people's attitudes. Jesus told us to love one another and to treat our neighbours as we would want to be treated. And this is the principle in which I try to live my life.
Like slavery, we learn, and move on.
And if our attitudes are more in line with wishing to do right, rather than feeling superior toothers, we can't go far wrong.
I don't know about homosexuality - and I don't care. That is God's problem, not mine. I don't always understand it, but I am very fond of the very few I do know, from my past life.
Arrogance is always unattractive. And unfortunately many religious people feel very self-righteous in their satisfaction at being the "called-out ones". God does not love them more, just because they are in a certain church, than the rest of mankind.

The bible also says in the book of Timothy that in the latter days people would have itching ears and wanting to hear only what they wanted to hear, that they would not endure sound doctrine.
God's word is very clear on this issue of homosexuality, and is not open for debate. It's not, then, so much a matter of whether or not we should be politically correct and respect that which God has condemned; it's simply a matter of choosing to remain faithful to God's word over and above what man thinks is the "cool and acceptable" thing to do in these enlightened yet darkened days of humanistic thought.
Besides, alot of these so-called "bible scholars" will do and say anything to beef-up the size of their congregations and thus, their bottom-line; even if it means openly and contemptibly defying God's word. Nothing new, really. It's been going on for years now.

Respect those views I do not in that they fly in the face of Scripture that is outright and obvious. These churches directly contradict God.

Now, even though I think this view is utter trash, I would be just as civil to such people as I would to any other people.

In the end though....the question is...is this an acceptable Christian viewpoint? I would say (to agree with Scripture), no it is not acceptable.

As to your other items that many churches ignore I would have to agree with you. The church should be preaching on that as well and not ignoring it. Adultery is also unacceptable. The church cannot embrace sin as acceptable behavior.

I am not technically fundamentalist (am Reformed in outlook), but I think I would probably fall under such under your definition of it.

Even if it was a double standard, two wrongs don't make a right. If we are wrong about, say gluttony, then you are suggesting that we should be wrong about everything else too, and get God really mad at us? In for a penny, then in for a pound? Hum, I don't think I like that kind of logic.

As for the opinions of other churches; yes they mean something (and if you like them so much, then what's stopping you from going there instead and leaving us alone), but the opinions of a holy and infallible God are supposed to mean more to us as Christians than the opinions of sinful, fallible mortal men.

Christians are supposed to be trying to be right, not popular.

Double-standard? I don't know. It doesn't matter--God alone judges the hearts of men. You and I can try, but it obviously is never accurate and someone always gets hurt.

The God of Sodom and Gamorrah is the same God of America. No matter how much you try, you nor any other church is going to change God.
