Dealers have to buy the cars that they have on their lot. Many times they borrow money to pay for them (floorplan). When a car sits for a longer time in stock, the managemnet will usually either advertise it at a low price (cutting profit is better than paying interest) or offer the sales force a bonus for selling that car.

All cars get sold!

Many dealers move the cars around to other dealerships to give the appearance of new stock. Others sell them to auction houses. Eventually they will be bought by someone.

They go on sale. If they still don't sell, they move from dealership to dealership -- some models are more popular in the South, for example. If they still don't sell, they go overseas.

They get sold at a deep discount. If you are buying a car this is the time to buy.

They heavily discount them until they are all sold. They WILL sell.
