I'm planning to buy a Win XP professional so that I can play around with my Mac/Boot Camp.
My question is - can I use the same copy on another machine [legally]?

Yes and No. The license is for one machine only, but if you use it on another machine sometimes it will accept it. If not you can do the registration over the phone. I use my license on 4 machines. Every time I call the number to register over the phone, it has worked with one exception. The last time I did it, I had to talk to a representative but she eventually let me do it after I told her I bought XP and was upgrading another one of my computers. They usually don't have a problem with it.
