Use a land line if possible. I can't tell you the number of interviews I've had over cell phones that just annoyed me to death because I couldn't hear half of what the person was saying.

Strike a balance between answering in monosyllabes and giving the interviewer your life's story. This is even more important over the phone, since you can't see the, "stop talking, I have another question" body language cues from the interviewer. Give concise answers and let the interviewer ask a follow up question. It will also keep the interviewer from reading her emails while you're talking because she'll have to pay attention. :)

Speak clearly and enunciate. Smile - it will come through in your voice.

You have an advantage in a phone interview because you can more readily refer to notes, the web, etc. Have your reference materials ready - company web site, a list of questions you want to ask, etc. You'll sound more prepared and organized.

Remember to ask what the next steps in the process are, and to send a thank you note.

Good luck!

Speak clearly, enunciate, don't have any background noise, send the kids out to play, don't say "um" or "uh", make sure you have a clear, solid connection and no cutting out (on the cell phone). Remember to smile, they can hear it in your voice if you are smiling. Good luck!

Smile, you can tell on the other end if the person is smiling or not. Speak clearly... avoid at any cost "umm" "you know" and be yourself like you're having a normal conversation
