ok, i know this sounds crazy, but ever since i have became pregnant, infact even befor i knew that i was pregnant. my black lab has this obsession with licking my tummy, or setting her paw on it. and when she sleeps by me, she always wants to lay her head on my tummy. do you think she knows, or whats the deal

Oh yes, she probably does know! Your lab will be a great help in taking care of the baby!
There are some dogs who can smell cancer, and I saw a news item about one who could smell when his person was about to have a seizure. And my mother has a dog who can smell when she's going to have a migraine. So it makes perfect sense that your black lab can smell the new baby.

There have been many studies done, with Labs in particular, where they train a dog to locate cancer cells. The dogs can locate single cancer cells in the human body in most areas. This has helped numerous people that had cancer get the treatment they needed before it was too late. The dogs can sense the different body changes and smell when a person has cancer cells active in their body. So why wouldnt a dog be able to sense that your pregnant. In a wolf pack other females can tell when the alpha female is pregnant and will often do as much as they are allowed to help her. When these pups are born other wolves will actually babysit so the alpha female can go hunt and eat. Your dog is following her insticts and is protecting you as the alpha dog. She understands completely what is going on in your body and has taken it upon herself to care for and protect you. Dogs can detect impening seizures in people, predict bad weather and disasters such as earthquakes, they can even sniff out cancer in people... SO It is safe to say that a dog can certainly tell if you are pregnant, either by smell or another sense.. a dog has better hearing than we do they could easily distinguish the seperate heartbeat of a fetus, they may even sense it in ways we dont even know about. but I dont doubt for a second that a dog can tell when a human or another dog is pregnant for that matter.

I think she knows something is different. Dog have been know to detect many things are different in humans for a long time. I bet she can tell just by the different hormones your giving off. Who knows she may even be able to hear the babies heart beat or the fetal movement much better than you.
Sounds like she going to be great around the baby.

My oath she knows. Animals are the most amazing things on this planet and nothing would surprise me in the least. Especially dogs, they have an instinct that can't be beat! She sounds like a beautiful and loyal dog, don't forget her when the baby is born because it sounds like to me she will be protective of that baby!! What a special dog you have!

they do sence it. when my sister was pregnant Reich would not leave her alone. Wait untill the baby comes, and then she will not leave the baby for a few days. Also if she is a protective dog, wait untill the baby cries. At first the dog will not know what to do...it is very cute.

I feel that dogs can sense things that we cannot. Maybe you have a different "smell" now that you are pregnant from pheromones or something. It's just my opinion, but I think that she could definitely know.

When we become pregnant, we express pheromones that dogs can detect. She knows exactly what's going on with you, and keep watch when delivery comes near, she'll probably sense your oncoming labor before you do ;) Congratulations.

She likely knows that you are acting different, smell different and are having different feelings.. But it seems that they can figure out that people are pregnant.. Heard it many times before.

Yes they know because my pug was the same way. he would even sniff at my tummy. He's also great with my son and my son loves him and always smiles when he sees him.
