We are going on holiday to Hastings, and my son wants to try his hand at offshore fishing, I have no knowledge as to what type of bait do you use, so any advice would be very helpful on this subject

Phone the local tackle shops and get a good skippers name, talk to him. Bait and gear will be provided on a good boat, tight lines.

Rule of thumb is to look at what the game fishes are served with ... native baitfishes .. herring, mullet etc.. u can try to Jig for bait fish .. and use em live ...for best presentation ..
otherwise Shrimp always works ... squid strips work as well and are alot more hardy ... wont get you changing bait every 3 mins.

Depends very much on what type of fish you are trying to catch. But Rag Worms, Sand Eels and squid are all good baits for most fish (Bream, bass, pollock, plaice, flounder). If you are going for anything a bit bigger (skate, tope, conga eel), then you may want large pieces of mackerel or small crabs. alternatively you could just use feathers to catch things such as mackerel and herring

The best advice is to ask the "skipper"what he recommends;after all he does these fishing trips for a living and can probably sell you the correct bait.

you'll be chartering a boat so the skipper will have all the knowlage of types of fish in the area and baits, he'll also know where to fish as any charter will have a sonar m8 so good luck and i hope you and your son have a good days fishing

If you are going on an offshore charter then all is provided. It all depends on where you are going and the target species.

If your just looking to catch anything just

use lures ( plastic, rubber, etc.) You might even call the area or Capetian... and pick it

up before you get there if you rely on them

after you will probably pay extra....

Mike T gave you some great choices also
