Actually it has been proved that if you work out for 30 minutes a day every day you will lose weight, but if you are going to lose weight with strength training and cardiovascular training. you do it in an every other day routine. one day strength training for 1 hr and 2nd day cardio training for 1 hr a day. Do this for 5 days a week and make sure you take 2 days off for your body to heal. Also use proper hydration by drinking at least 24 ozs. of water prior to your work out and 8 ozs. of a fitness water such as Propel after the work out to replace electrolytes. What ever you do, do not use Gatorade or Powerade for the first 3 weeks of strength training. Let your body get use to using the fitness water first then start substituting the fitness water with gatorade or powerade. I have been a fitness instructor for 25 yrs.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
