I have heard that the number seven represents perfection, completion and finality in ones life work.

God created the world in six days and on the Seventh-day he rested from all his works which he had "Completed" and made. Seven can mean "It is done" or "It is finished".

Sabbath also represents perfection, completion and restoration. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy".
Rest as God rested from all his works.
