The consensus of conservative scholarship on this is that Joseph was dead by the time Jesus started His ministry. He was likely between 30 and 50 when he married Mary, and would have been between 60 and 80 at the wedding in Cana. The life expectancy was fairly short at that time, somewhere on the order of 50 years. Biblical evidence for this includes the instruction of Christ from the cross to His disciple John that Mary was now his "mother." Deductive reasoning leads to the conclusion that since Jesus was now dying, she needs someone to care for her. This could only be if Joseph was either dead or infirm.

Mary, Jesus' mother, was a widow by the time of Jesus' ministry. That's why Jesus entrusted her care to His disciple John at the cross.
In case of any confusion, she and Mary Magdalene are two totally separate women. Mary was a very common name at the time; there are at least a couple of other Mary's mentioned in the Bible, as well.

Joseph had died
some time after the trip to the temple and before Jesus Christ started his ministry
If Joseph was still alive, he would have been listed here but only his mother and half-brother and half-sisters:
Mar 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Mary, Jesus Mother, was a widow by the time He started His Ministry. The last mention of Jesus Father or Stepfather, was when Jesus was twelve and they went to attend Passover.

The reason Mary followed Jesus is because he is God. When Mary and Jesus were at the wedding feast at Cana she tell everyone Do what ever he tells you. That was Jesus first public miracle that proved his divinity. That was the most important part was Jesus message.

Mary did not necessarily follow Jesus at first. When she became a widow, Jesus entrusted her care to John. After His resurrection, she was with the disciples in the upper room.

Mary his mother? There are several Marys in the gospels. Anyway it's assumed that Joseph had died by the time Jesus began his public ministry. I don't think it says that directly anywhere though.

Most people assume that Joseph was dead by the time that Jesus began preaching. That is why he is mentioned only in the birth narratives, and the early childhood story of Luke, and not in any other stores in any of the gospels.

I don't know that Mary did follow Jesus. It is clear that she was not following him at the time she visited him while he was preaching, because he told the apostles that his family was right there with him.

Which "Mary" of seven mentioned are you refering to?
If Mary: the mother of Jesus, she's also called "woman".
Woman, being deceived, was in the transgression(law).
"Where no law, there no transgression": Romans 4:15.
Where "no law"? Obviously in "the end" already written:
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
