Hell doesn't exist and although beliefs are nice it is actions that will get you your share of the world to come.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Only belief and acceptance of Jesus are required to get to Heaven but...

Mat 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

You will be rewarded for the good works that you do while on Earth.

Now, concerning the concept of Hell. The words that are translated as "hell" in both the Old and New Testaments (sheol in Hebrew and hades in Greek) actually mean a waiting place for all the dead. Even Jesus went to Hell for three days. The fact is everyone goes to "Hell" while waiting forJudgement Day.

Hell is not the same as the lake of fire: Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Great question,

I guess the answer depends on what one believes, so in the end it has to be belief right?

If a person reads the bible and determines that their behavior gets them into heaven, and another person reads the bible and determines that it is completely based on Faith.

Then they both are drawing different opinions from the same text and will have to rely on their personal belief to determine how they attempt to get there. So even someone who relies on works to get them everlasting life, is still relying on that belief as truth.

Its all about belief in the end, I personally don't believe that either hold any substance.

Firstly, I don't see hell or heaven as the reason why I believe. It's about getting to know God. For that you need both belief and behaviour. The two go hand in hand. Believing means to trust God to help you become the person he made you to be. Of course this will in turn mean that your behaviour will change.

If you are talking about Christianity, most Christians tell me that belief is the sole determining factor. Yet there are many Bible references to behavior, so it's a bit confusing.

I don't believe that hell exists, but if it did I would hope behavior would be all that mattered. It is a cruel god who would punish people eternally simply for not believing and reward believers who committed atrocious acts.

I think it is the amount of love and light inside a person that gets them to either one. I think if a person lives a live full of selfishness, hatred, anger and unforgiveness they will probably end up in hell at first. I'm sure that even if someone finds themselves in hell they can always get out when they are ready to repent. To repent means to change your way of thinking. If a person changes how they think and focuses on love then I believe they can move on from hell and on to heaven. This is why Jesus tells us to have light and love inside us for God and for others so we can bypass hell altogether when we die or escape it.

Behavior

Romans 2:6-7 God "will give to each person according to what he has done." To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

Revelation 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.

Its first by faith through grace - thought and a heart change;
Then its behavior - faith without works is dead, so actions.

The works, in my mind, are an outward result of a changed heart.

All actions are preceded by thoughts. Therefore, there is little distinction between the two in the long run.
