I'm usually the one who encourages trying to salvage eggs that have been sitting around for a while, but 3 or 4 months is really pushing it....even if they've been in the fridge the whole time.

I suggest that you do get rid of them...carefully. If even one of the eggs is rotten, if you accidentally crack it, it will stink up your house. A good way is the put the eggs---still inside the carton---inside a couple of plastic grocery bags, and then store THAT in the freezer. On trash day, dispose of it normally.

That's too long. Eggs are best within two weeks of purchase. The egg carton has a sell-by date. Look on the short side of the carton.
Even eggs that are within the expiration date sometimes are not at their prime and you can see that when you make a hard-boiled egg and the shell doesn't separate well for peeling; if you have to pick the shell pieces to where it damages the smooth egg white, it's an old egg.
Treat eggs like you would cheese or butter.

About 4 months from the day they were laid, if they have been refrigerated properly. So it depends on how fresh they were when you got them. Just crack them and smell. You have the genes to tell if an egg is rotten -- the smell of sulphur is very distinct. To be safe, make sure you fully cook it.

p/s: I would use the expiry date as a rule of thumb, but there is no need to follow it blindly. Check reliable sources on the Internet. It is government regulation to put expiry dates on all consumables, and it benefits manufacturers to have you dispose of expired items and buy new ones. Seriously, how spoilt can a sealed bottle of salt water (saline solution) get?

from the cartons i buy - they usually have expired dates within 2-3 weeks at the most. I would not use eggs that have been in the fridge that long (even if they have been refrigerated)

the eggs are no good..on the side of the box there is a number (ie 255) this is the #of the day in the year they were packaged..also check the expiration date on the side of carton. eggs are only good for 2 weeks in the refrig.

I wouldn't trust them. Usually there is an expiration date on the side of the carton.
