Well they have just as much schooling as any other doctor - 7 years and sometimes more. They just majory in family medicine. After graduation there's always additional classes, seminars, in-services, etc that they can attend to keep their information current. They all read medical journals to see what new things are coming on the horizon. They basically have to have a little bit of knowledge of a lot of thing and once they set up their practice they'll become really knowlegable of the things they see most often in their office.
