Nietzsche said: "A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith doesn't prove anything." And therein lies the question: Should we believe a guy who took casual strolls through lunatic asylums?

Discuss. :-)

I'd love to say that's mine, but it was written for Ruminations, a funny and child-unfriendly site:

I know how to give credit.

Freidrich Nietzsche had a lot of wacky ideas, most of which stemmed from his crusade-like personal mission to prove Christianity wrong. If you read even some of his musings, it's obvious that he has a major hard-on over this subject.

The only thing that Nietzcshe ever said that I agree with, although by no means does it apply to everyone, was "that which does not kill you makes you stronger." Pretty much everything else he ever said was said out of hatred for the Christian faith and those who follow it.

"A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith doesn't prove anything."

Faith doesn't prove anything, save a person's willingness to believe beyond the senses. So I sorta disagree.

There's a real and true faith that exists, and it's proof is the strength and stability that remains solid even through the severest of tests.

Nietzsche said a lot of things, but his comments on some things are relevant, even in todays religious society!

"One must make one's self superior to humanity, in power, in loftiness of soul,--in contempt."
