when I work out and diet, I lose weight in the rest of my body and my friends even comment that I look skinny. However, I don't lose even an inch of my belly fat and this makes me look unproportional. What should I do? I have had the belly fat problem as far back as I can remember. I'm now 22. ( I don't want to undergo surgery)

Oh my goodness...surgery isn't the answer. (I thought I was going to need surgery too but you can get a flat stomach without cutting it off)

You say you work out and diet, but is there consistency and dedication? If there isn’t that’s the first thing you need to change.

I am in the same boat as you (I’m 26). I have always had problems with my belly. That's the first place I gain weight and until now I thought is was impossible to get it off. The saying is true..."first place to get fat goes is the last place it comes off."

Since January, I have been eating right and exercising. Not dieting, just eating right. Meaning I’m watching my calorie intake and of that how much of it is fats, carbs and protein. I eat 5-6 small meals a day and drink over a gallon of water a day. No fast food, very little breads (I get most my carbs from green veggies), I don't eat much packaged foods, I stick to the fresh produce and meats. I supplement my diet with protein shakes, vitamins and fish oil (high in omega 3—good fat). I did my research about what foods to eat and what foods to stay away from. I learned about the Glycemic Index and how it is beneficial. I did the math and found I needed to consume about 1400calories to loose weight and still have enough fuel for my body to run. I was losing about 1 lb a week. Now I eat 1600+ calories a day due to my workout program but I’m still dropping about 1 lb a week.

As far as working out goes, I started doing cardio 3-5 times a week for 25-30 minutes and after 3 ½ months I'm at 6 times a week, usually 7 because I'm active and from lifting weights 3 times a week for 60 minutes to lifting 6 times a week. Plus I do abs 6 times a week as well.

To track my progress I took my measurements including the biggest part of my belly. To date I have lost over 15” and 3.5” have come just from my problem belly area. My friends and family say I’ve gotten thin and look great but I still have this little pooch but it is coming off. With consistent hard work and dedication, it is getting smaller and smaller. My goal is to have a flat stomach. To date I have lost 18 lbs and over 7% body fat.

You can do it! If you need more advice feel free to email me.

Good luck!!!!

Cortisol is a naturally occurring hormone that when activated causes belly fat. It's a reaction to stress and must go back to our ncestors that had to store fat in case there would be days without food. With this said, if you are under stress, try some yoga or meditation for your stress.

There is also a theory that trans fats and high fructose corn syrup that is used in a lot of processed foods will make you gain weight.

You're too young for surgery so try the natural way first. Eat organic foods, stay away from really processed food, and find a way to lower your stress level.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Diet and exercise are probably better than cosmetic surgery because you are also building good habits for life.

Handling stress is also important--add times of peace and learn more life problem-solving strategies.

Intense exercise (Duke University study) shows 17% less abdominal fat compared to no exercise in a 5 year study.

An animal study shows 76% less abdominal fat with drinking daily green tea compared to no green tea. It was the combination of daily green tea catechins/antioxidants and green tea caffeine that gave these results. Regular green tea also offers a zero-calorie solution to dieting situations.

Belly dancing training teaches belly undulations which tunes up the whole abdomen and gets a lot of interest going in other areas of your life.

Best of luck to you!

Your body loses fat last in the place it stores it first. 'Dieting' is not the answer, you have to shift how you think about food. Lean meats, low fat dairy, lots of fruit & veggies, whole grains. Eat 5-6 small meals a day. Exercise in an equal amount of strength training & cardio. Join a health club and speak to a trainer/nutrtionist (dbl check certifications). Living healthy is a lifestyle, not a means to an end. Results come.

as well as sit ups try squats and i find the plank and side plank are very good for around the stomach! this is where you position yourself face down resting your elbows and laying ypur arms out straight in front of you at the same time shoulder width apart also resting on your knees then slowly lift yourself up on your tip toes while facing down wards and hold that position for 30 seconds and do this once or twice and you should really feel it burning! for the side plank lie on your side obviously! and support your head with one arm or just rest your head, and lift your whole body up with both legs togethar and balance yourself with one arm up straight above you should look like a rainbow with an arm stickin out the top do this on both sides a few time holding for 30 seconds and it will work on the stubborn love handles!
you can also try lying on your side, bending the leg on the side on the floor and lifting your other lef about 30 times and repeating on the other side!
also check your allergies this can lead to bloated stomach in some people! perhaps you eat a lot of carbohydrates i find white bread can sometimes make me bloated!
hope this helps!

Regular cardio workout plan, proper diet, determination...and time. Wish there was an easier way but that's what it's gonna take. Don't give up!
