My son is in the thick of it in Iraq. He is a Marine. There is something about the Marines that stands apart. Be proud of yourself and make us proud, do your mission and come home safe!! The stories of courage and bravery from all of our troops should inspire you to do your best, after all the Marines ARE the best trained and most disciplined in the world. My son has seen the worst and the best of the Iraq's. The people know they need us and want us there (for now).
Remember, you're not fighting just for the Iraq people, you're fighting for America's continued freedom and safety!! May God Bless you and your family.

Well you won't be over seas by Christmas because Boot Camp is 13 weeks, MCT is 21 days and SOI is 8 and then you have to hit the fleet. You also can take 10 days of boot leave so. So don't expect anything for at least 6 months. You can't create a unit on your own and its Semper Fi

First off, it's Semper Fi, it's an e not an i.
Do you know what Semper Fi means, if not don't use.
Leave in October and expect to be at war by Christmas? Did you not listen to your recruiter, or are you making this up. Basic Training is 3 months, plus infantry training...you'll still be in training during Christmas.
Other than than, good luck if you're telling the truth. Marines are a proud group of folks and you will gain a lot of life lessons with them.

Congrats! Don't listern to the army guys above. I've been in both services and to go into combat, The Marines is they way to go. You may get some hand me downs, but the Marines can do more with less. That's why it's the Few, the Proud. Not everybody can get in. By the way it's Semper Fi! Good Luck!

Good for you, but what is the question. it all depends on if you like the thought of going out there and being right in the action or if you would like a support role, like me in the air force. we still help out but personally i don't want to be in the thick of it, especially since i don't believe in why we are there. Or, you could join the Air Forces Combat Controller program. it is 2.5 years of training and you get to jump out of planes, do demo, take air fields. sneak and destroy special forces stuff. you would be able to work with rangers, deltas, any other special forces unit because you are so highly trained. a lot of people don't know about it but it is pretty damn cool.

Hopefully they will teach you that it's Semper Fi, not Simper Fi, short for Semper Fidelis (always faithful in Latin).

13 weeks in boot. 4 more in MCT.
I used to be gung ho too. When you get dropped after your Senior Drill Instructor is done with his speech, you're going to wonder WTF you got yourself into!
And the only real SF that the Marines have is Force Recon. You have to score a 300 on your pft coming out of boot to even be considered. I went to RIP school, and I'm not ashamed to say I didn't make it even 3 weeks. Heh...you'll never look at 4 foot of rope the same after RIP....trust me on this!
Good luck to you.

well since the Corps is part of SOG then you can go with what you are looking for. I would suggest going 0311 and then trying out for Recon, which you can do in ITS and then go from there.
Semper Fi
