I hate it when people offer you there left hand to shake, or fold there hand over like you are supposed to kiss their hand. And people who smack their food like a cow chewing cud. What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to manners.

These days, just because of my day to day work, I am really annoyed by anyone who does not understand and utilize elevator etiquette: 1) that you only press the arrow button in the direction that you'll be traveling - pushing down when you want to go up may bring an elevator to your floor quicker but that doesn't mean anything if it is traveling in the wrong direction, 2) you ALWAYS let everyone OFF the elevator first before attempting to get on yourself - do not rush the doors you idiots, how are you supposed to get in if there is no room for you?, 3) Not offering to press a button for me if you see me struggling with a large box of files or carrying a tray full of coffee, 4) Parents, let your kid press the floor for your singular stop and then if they look like they are about ready to start lighting up the keys like a Christmas tree then wrangle them in, 5) get into the car and move to the furthest corner/side to allow more people behind you to get on - I can't stand when a chatty couple gets in and stands by the door and everyone has to squeeze past them to get in the car, 6) Two words - cell phones. We all know most elevator shafts have poor reception. Finish your call before getting on and being in such close proximity to others. We didn't care to hear your converstation anyway, but we certainly don't want you screaming "OH HOLD ON I THINK MY CELL PHONE MIGHT GO OUT.... HELLO... HELLO!!!! CAN YOU STILL HERE ME???", 7) let customers on first - service impressions last more than just immediate care, 8) don't try to squeeze yourself into an already cramped elevator forcing everyone to bunch together and be squeezed. Offer to wait and take the next one. You'll make the day of everyone, your trip will probably be more comfortable, and it only cost you a couple of minutes, 9) if you see someone 10 steps behind you and they are obviously heading to the elevators too, hold the door for them without their having to ask, 10) don't overwhelm your neighbors with over socialization. Small talk you can all participate in (weather, what floor a certain department might be in, engaging a frightened child with pleasant comments about their toy to distract them and help the parents, etc) is fine, but bringing up anything controversial such as, "Ooo that political rally downtown today is going to intense. I wish I was going! Who are you rooting for?"

I don't get people who don't understand these basic kindnesses and social decorum.

1. my number one pet peeve is people who are inconsiderate and/or rude.
2. when you walk up to a counter and the person working there doesn't acknowledge you, but instead ignores you like you aren't standing there.
3. Some cashiers really get on my nerves when its your turn to get checked out and they don't even say 'hello'..............uuggghh that gets to me.
Hmmm...lets see, other pet peeves, idiot drivers, really negative people who have to share their pessimism with everyone..... oh and when dealing w/ a cashier anywhere, when you hand them money and they don't say, "out of $20" or "out of $10"....that just protects your butt as the cashier and the person who is giving the money so that there isn't a mistake! If they take your money and just put it in the till, then make the wrong change, it's a huge ordeal and a pain in the butt to correct it. OK I'm done....LOL.........have a wonderful day................ :-)

My top one is when your talking to someone face to face and their cell phone goes off. They answer the cell phone right away and don't tell the person to call back.

They expect you to stand there like an idiot and wait until they're done with the phone call. I don't however, I leave if the phone conversation goes on longer than 10-15 seconds.

My other peeve is someone who's obviously obese trying to fit in a movie theatre seat next to me. These seats are small as it is, I don't need a ham hock hanging in my space. It also accompanies a continuous eating and chomping from the space invader. It's hard concentrating on the movie when it sound like there's a beaver on crack next to you.

Several of mine are already listed by others..

People who don't say 'please' and 'thank you', or 'excuse me'.

Cashiers who don't even acknowledge I am there when they are scanning my things.

People who belch or pass gas and don't have the manners to say 'excuse me'.

My mother is wheelchair bound with MD.. people who stare at her or treat her like she's an idiot and talk to ME when she is going through a check out.

People that when you smile and greet them act like you spat on them.

People that get a buggy in the store and leave it at the end of an aisle blocking the aisle while they run all the way to the other end to get something.

People that park their cart in the middle of an aisle blocking traffic both ways.

People that stop to visit with someone else in the middle of an aisle and neither will move for customers to continue on their way.

BTW.. it's 'their' when referring to people, not 'there'. (I admit it, that's another pet peeve of mine.)

People who put their fingers on food at the table or even worse, people who talk with their mouth full over the table (guaranteeing that food particles are flinging out here and there).

People who shop at expensive stores and throw the clothing they've tried on on the floor. I mean, is it that much trouble to put it back on the hanger.

Fat people who overcompensate for their fatness by trying to be extra perky, like, "Oh! I'm a fatty, but I'm having more fun than you!"

People who slurp their beverages.

Cashiers who don't greet you with at least, "Hi."

People who work in stores like Wal-Mart that act like you are bothering them and are in their way by shopping there.

I hate it when people lick their finger to turn a page. I hate it when people don't turn off their cell phones when I am trying to enjoy a dinner out.
