I work for a fuel wholesaler. I watch gas prices every ten minutes. But I go to play golf and people are talking about gas prices will go to $4 a gallon. I can't find any documented facts on this. The highest average right now is 3.46 at the pumps. I guess it could go up but why do people make up this number. If you know a credible web site where it states this let me know.

I meant $4 this summer.

I also mean UL only. Good news today anyway. One brand has dropped .20 since Friday and futures are showing another .05 decrease tonight. Hope we see it at the pumps.

They are the IDIOTS who help drive up the prices. They "predict" it, put it in the "minds" of the wholesalers, & public, and since we have been "forewarned", the wholesalers follow thru. If they want to "predict" numbers, I'm all ears---let them "predict" the winning lotto numbers for me!!!! :-)

I think people are picking that number simply because it is a ridiculously high price to pay for gas... and the trends suggest it may happen. You don't need a credible website. It is common sense. Gas prices have risen faster in the past 5 years than any other time in our history. If gas went up from below $2 a gallon to well over $3 in five years, why wouldn't anyone be concerned that it will keep going? It went up in my town by 50 cents in a matter of months. At that rate, we could easily top $4. Common sense. Doesn't mean it WILL happen, but just by looking at the current trends, it is not that crazy to think that it might.

I just saw your correction. Fact is that gas usually skyrockets in Summer. Again, it doesn't mean that it WILL go to $4, but it is NOT crazy to worry that it will. Like I said, it went up 50 cents the past couple of months. Will it go up that high this summer? Maybe. Maybe not. But it is not as nuts as you make it out to be.

I would imagine "these people" are people who have some knowledge. When gas prices reach $3.46 (higher where I am), seems pretty likely to me that the prices will reach $4.00, and it won't be long. I (we) can only hope there's a drop soon, but with summer driving coming up and holidays, fat chance! You can't document something that hasn't happened yet, but that doesn't mean it's not darn likely.

I think at this point, $4 gas prices is the reasonable conclusion that can be drawn. Where I live they have risen at least $ .40 in less than a week and the continue to rise. Hopefully, they'll drop back down after the holiday weekend, but I definitely won't hold my breath for that.

Well it is already up to 3.58 here in northern michigan and it is not even peak travel season yet. Just give it another month and you will see the prices go up. As soon as the summer break starts for the kids.

Have you ever noticed that if enough people say something like that, it happens? So, maybe we all need to start saying something about NOT paying that much for gas...
I say PHOOEY on you, naysayer...we don't like paying $.3.00 a gallon, and if you think public outcry is getting loud now, lets see what happens if prices DO get that high!

In my lifetime I bet gas prices will top 4.00. It is completely possible. These are only predictions not fact.
