The sixth commandment denounces killing (without a cause)
How can someone go deer hunting and kill one, considering that the following expenses far outway the value of providing food for your family:
Purchase of gun(s),
license,
tags,
equipment,
hunting lease,
gasoline,
and lodging.

I agree with you I do not think that God put animals here for us just to blow their heads off for what we term sport and fun.

Good question!!
My cousin goes out hunting occasionsally, I think it´s a bit of a "guy thing". They always eat the meat, and I don´t think they go around shooting at anything, or just for fun. He´s a great guy in general, so I try not to judge it.
I myself, could never do this. But in any case, I do eat meat, which actually means that I am paying someone else to do the killing for me. Whether they do it at a farm, or in the woods, if it is controlled (things are not wasteful, it is done within limits, etc), then I can´t say much against it. In either case, I don´t see the killing as being without a cause (although the expenses, as you say, may be more). I mean here, that the intention is to get food, and not go out on a shooting spree. For those who may get a kick out of "preying" on and "getting" some being, I of course think it is bad.
Of course, some of those could also go after people instead of animals (school shootings etc), so it is the attitude I am against, not the act itself.
And in case anyone thinks my cousin should learn a lesson, I´ll just add that his truck was totalled by a moose once! So, the animals really are the superior ones at times.

Although humans in the developed world do not need to go hunting for their daily subsistence, and although I have been hunting but no longer do so, I would in no way abridge the right of those who legally do so. But I am against those people that go deer hunting that do not take the time to become proficient at shooting and then tend to only wound the animal where it dies painfully. Being a good hunter takes skill, and of all the hunters which I know, only the bad ones are the "macho" lets go kill something type

Honestly, I just couldn't care less about a deer. Once it can tell me "Hey dude, don't freaking shoot me!" then I'll listen. Just because people's hands don't get direct blood on them, doesnt' mean that eating meat from a store is any different than going hunting. In many ways it's worse, considering the terrible conditions most modern farms raise their live stock under. I've seen the PETA videos, I've talked to the animal rights people, and in the end, I just don't care. I eat a hamburger because evolutionarliy I'm supposed to, and I enjoy the heII out of it because it's delicious. Animals are animals, except the cute ones, because no one should eat kittens. I see no hypocracy in that, and I couldnt' care less even if there was.
Oh, and I've been hunting, and I didn't kill a deer. I could have, but I didn't care about that either. I'd just never self righteously judge someone who actually did do it.

First of all God gave man the beasts of the earth to use as food. The commandment is about the murdering of people!
Some happen to enjoy the whole hunting experience and its more expensive and senseless to go skiing. To ride up a hill so you can slide down the hill is just silly. Aside from the huge line of people chugging up to the mountains on the freeway every winter, talk about spending gas money and adding to the pollution!
At least with hunting you come back with food for your family and friends. Any sport that provides something is better than aimlessly wandering about.

I am Not a hunter, but know many. A license is the same as a hunt lease and whats with tags?. Hunters go together to share expenses and usually one of the party has a cabin or borrows the use of a friends cabin. Generally they go together to share fuel cost as well. Once you have a gun & equipment it pays for itself as you use the same each year during season. The hunters I know do eat their kill and three I know also donate a deer each year to the mission.
The 6th commandment refers to killing humans. God gave man dominion over the animals. (Please re-read your Bible)
Our God is an awsome God.

Inherit gun, license only 25 dollars with tag, only equipment needed is clothes, which I wear anyway. No need for hunting lease as I own 2 thousand acres of land. No need for lodging or gas since live on that land previously mentioned. Now, think about this, we are natural predators, for most animals, such as deer, if we did not regulate the population, they would become overcrowded, starve, and become diseased. Due to humans in general, the habitat for these animals has shrunk, so unless you plan on killing all the people, which some animal rights activist condone, then we must regulate the population of animals to maintain their health. If you can provide me evidence otherwise, I would be happy to punch holes in that too.

Ok the 6th commandment "Do not Kill". pretty much refers only to the murder of another fellow man.
Genesis 1.28 "And the Lord blessed them (Adam and Eve) and told them, "Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters over the fish and the birds and all the animals." (NLT)
He gave us free reign to treat the animals as we saw fit. But if our actions lead to the extinction of the species or such and we regret it, tough. It's our choice. We are in control. It's our choice if we want to hunt them for sport or food, or to treat them with basic rights.

Well my friend we actually sat down and did the math. My husband is getting a rifle given to him for free and the hunting license in TN is about 100 dollars a year. Figuring in gas, minimal equipment, ammo, and the trip to the butcher's shop, we will have a full freezer of meat (about 6 months worth for two people) for the cost of about 50 cents per pound.
It's economics, pure and simple.
Say, can I ask you, are you a vegetarian? Do you own any leather furniture or clothes?
