If you are an unknown artist you can probably forget about any well known and respectable auction house wanting to handle and sell your paintings. With just a few rare exceptions, auction houses will only offer paintings by better known artists whose works have created a public demand.
However, there are artist reps who will take you on and work to get your art into galleries where, if you're good enough and/or lucky enough, they can help create a demand for your paintings.

Post them on ArtWanted! There are over 18,000 artists posting their work there and I personally am getting about 300 hits a day even though I haven't posted anything new there for a couple of months (The new stuff does even better!)
