Do atheists know more about religion than those who practice it?

Probably because Atheists have researched their material to sufficient extent to declare themselves Atheists. The Theists have usually done no research apart from what "is written in the book", and they laboriously quote and re-quote it endlessly as though that will make it true.

That's just another word for "brain-dead"

I think the Top Contributor title is based on number of questions answered. I have seen people with less than 10% Best Answers who are Top Contributors. On the other hand, I have also seen people with more than 20% Best Answers but are not Top Contributors.
Peace and blessings!

Because atheists aren't comfortable being atheists. What if they are wrong? They are either still searching or they want to make sure that everyone agrees with them as if God will have a poll and take the majority answer. Wouldn't that be a hoot if at the judgment you stand before God and tell Him He doesn't exist!

I once heard s Christian comedian say that someone came up to him and announced that he was an atheist. The comedian replied, "Wow, that must take a lot of faith!" ;-)

Yes.

Just look at the questions and answers - atheists are generally considerably more well-informed about religion than are believers. The response below mine - nothing more than a childish lie about atheists - is quite typical of Christians' participation here.

No they don't know more than a Christian, if they did they will also be a Christian, I have been a Christian for over 37 yrs. so if this top contributor thing is hogwash, this Top Contributor thing is a mess up program, I was a top contributor for many weeks & slowly they took that title away, & all my answers has been on R&S site, except for about 10 or 12. So This top contributor thing is nothing more than nonsense.

It's also based on who is politically correct. So Atheists must be more "PC."

You either like the term or your don't.

I may also have to do with Atheists picking other atheist answers for thumbs up and best answer. Very rarely does a beleiver get picked as best answer. JD did it to me once or twice, but most of the time he probably picks answers that end up being from other atheists.

That's how the TOP DOG gets it. He primarily answers only Catholic questions and he knows his Catholicism quite well, so they also pick him as best answer. Look at his stats.

I think he's doing it honestly, but to be frank when I see stats like that I tend to think double teaming is involved.

Average is 8 - 15% best answer. When someone is flying high they either ONLY answer questions in a catagory they are total experts in or they have two accounts or a friend clicking the best answer button.

My Archie would say that most of the questions on here are asked by atheists, and generally atheists will give other atheists the best answer.

LOL!!

"Top Contributors" is a failed concept on Y!A because they don't really know who is knowledgeable and who isn't. I think their metrics are skewed towards those who "live on Y!A" versus those who don't. It's just a marketting thing for them to draw-in as many people as they can.

I don't take it very seriously, and I think no one should!

Must answer question, AAArrrggghhh!
Need top contributor badge.

How come so many of the atheists have lost their orange badges.
It must be an example of God smiting them!

Unfortunately/strangely it would appear so. I'm appalled by the lack of knowledge about their own religion that many people on R&S display.

There are a few who cheat, they create multiple accounts and give themselves best answers. It's a percentage thing; if you answer 10 questions and get all 10 voted best answer, then you have a 100% rating, earning yourself a top contributor status symbol.

I know a lot of the other atheists have sort of banded together on IM's, and give each other best answers too. I guess if it is important to them to have that little symbol, then go for it! Me? I'll aim a little higher in my goals in life :)
