This is difficult, the search of many a wise spiritual seeker. Yes, God does reside in each of us; I best understand this as the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And yes, it is VERY difficult to discern whether an inner voice is of oneself, or really God speaking within us (or worse, an evil force masquerading as someone holy).
There are times I wish God would speak with us as he spoke to the ancient Jewish people, like Moses...that voice from the burning bush could not be mistaken as his own!! But nowadays very few people have direct, clear, visionary contact with God or a messenger (read St.Faustina's diary, mid 1920s-1930s for a recent example of someone who DID have very direct, clear communication). Most of us have to struggle and "guess"; in these cases, esp. if it's important, it is nice to have a spiritual advisor, someone with more knowledge. In the Catholic church that's easy: you speak to a Priest, and if he can't help you, he will lead you to someone who perhaps can. Not sure what other faiths can do...however, I'm sure a Priest would be willing to speak with anyone, Catholic or not (but if you don't know them, obviously, caution should be exercised).
Sometimes you WILL receive some kind of sign to help you in a dilemma. For example, if you're praying/asking about something, pay very close attention to everything around you. You could hear some song lyrics that speak to your soul about YOUR situation. You could be watching a movie, or TV, and all of a sudden, the characters are dealing with a similar scenario. Or some kind of synchronicity in nature occurs that makes you think "well, maybe I should..."
Basically, just be very open, and be on the lookout for synchronous "coincidences" that catch your attention. Sometimes people write this off as merely "coincidence"; others will label this as Divine Guidance. Either way, if you really are sincere in your asking, and have faith that you'll be given an answer, it is likely that guidance will appear; you just have to be clever enough to see it. As I said earlier, not many of us are given a burning bush; but I think many of us encounter guideposts, perhaps without realizing it.
Hope this helps!
Peace.

Jesus is the real God and only God. Read the bible. Know more. Go to church and pray. Life is all about one God. Its only christianity. I am a proud christian and from India. My boyfriend is a converted christian from being Hindu. I think once you read the bible you will know more.

There's no way to prove that God exists or doesn't exist. It's a matter of faith, that is, belief in something. No one can answer your question with absolute certainty.
