The evangelical movement and other moral majority swarms have become a blind, stupid herd of cattle with huge voting power. The rabid consumer is the standard to which the auto and other industries cater. I think people from other countries think that we are ignorant, self-harming, and impulsive children in America. I know differently because I know many intelligent thoughtful people who aren't snowed by the media or worse the politicians. Here's the problem... The stupid are easily led and vote the way they are told to vote leaving one or two men with way more than their fair share of votes to cast in this democracy. Intelligent people tend to disagree because debate is the food of the brain. Can't we get together and decide that their are some really scary things happening in this country and we need to find some common ground to get our voices heard. Decisions shouldn't be made by people who continue to think SUV's are a good idea and tomorrow never happens.

Don't misconstue me relegious does not mean stupid and I'm no genius but I do see through the manipulations of the media and certain zealots masquerading as relegious leaders merely for the seemingly unimpeachable endorsement of God on their particular crusade. PS if these are the best answers you can come up with then I am not asking you I am asking other thinkers.

I have been participating here on Yahoo answers just for a few weeks. I am appalled at the devastatingly poor thinking and ignorance I see in questions and answers. I am even more appalled by the manipulators who use the stupidity and blind belief of others as a foundation for their own agenda. I see more of this from the right than the left, but there is plenty of it on the left as well.

That's the bad news. The good news is that these whack-a-doodles at the extremes of these 'debates' are but a tiny minority. It just does not seem so here because the subjects of Politics and Religion on Yahoo answers attracts the crazies and manipulators like bees to honey.

I don't consider myself a crazy or manipulator, but this place is like a train wreck, I just have to look. If you answer any controversy with reason, (no matter which side of the debate you come in on) you most likely will see more thumbs down than thumbs up on your answer.

So, don't worry about getting the people here together. They do not represent the real America (but they will shrilly proclaim otherwise).

The answer to your question is simple.

People DON'T want to get involved. They'd rather have foolish elected officials "babysit" them and make all the decisions. What they don't realize is that every foolish decision a politician (national, state or local) makes...the money to pay for it comes out of our tax dollars!

The frightening thing is that you think of yourself as a thinker. To me you sound like a typical elitist who imagines himself superior to everyone else. You certainly are not!

You vastly underestimate the intelligence of religious folks.
You also overestimate your own intelligence.
