Yes you should be worried about not only your pets food but the food you are feeding your family. We have become to lax in our thinking that because it comes from a store the food is safe. Wake up people, most of our food or parts in it come from other countries and we have little to no control as to what goes in it.
Untill we start saying no to foreign products and production we are going to have problems.
Most of us dont know where our food comes from even by looking at the lable because our American companies are really not American anymore. They find cheaper labor and products in other countries yet charge us more for their profit. Start buying only American products and force these companies to bring our food and jobs back home.

Yes Red Riding Hood there are wolves in these woods and very few woodsmen to protect you.

I would be concerned about ANY food that was unidentifiable which all kibble is. You can't know what is in there. Look how many brands have claimed at the beginning of this fiasco that THEIR food was safe only to see it added WEEKS later to the recall list. Look at the FDA site which clearly says this problem started with pets dying back in July 06 and the recall did not start until the end of February. They had to wait until an alarming number of pets died I guess. When this all started in Feb. the FDA was trying out a BullSh!T claim that only 6 pets had died so far.. That is an outright LIE. They are not going to recall over 6 MILLION products because 6 pets died. Think about it. This is a MUCH larger problem then anyone is ready and willing to admit.
They found RAT POISON, CYANIC ACID, Components of ANTIFREEZE and MELAMINE In this food and the FDA OPENLY ADMITS on their website that they are trying to figure out which poisons are responsible for all the deaths. They have OPENLY stated that ALL of these poisons would have very little effect on their own in the amounts found but that 2 mixed together is likely what is causing the major issues..
HELLO PEOPLE..... There is POISON in those bags and NOT just the ones recalled. If you think your brand is SAFE in every sense of the word, you are more then likely sadly mistaken.
Read Ann Martins book called 'Foods Pets Die For'. This has been a problem with pet food for many years.

The best way to assure your pets safety is to feed a RAW diet. We feed our dogs food we can see, smell, touch, and feed to our own families. Fresh raw meaty bones and organs from a variety of animals, fish and egg. :)

I would like to add that everyone is willing to jump on the 'Blame China band wagon' I assure you that these poisons found in dog food come from the US as well. The meat that is used in the majority of products is from dead, dying, diseased, disabled animals whom many have been drugged and they are all thrown into the rendering pot, turned to powder and sold to these companies as MEAT. Do some research on How pet food is made and where the meats comes from. Stop turning a blind eye and feeding grabage to your dog just because everyone else is doing it. GET EDUCATED on the subject and do something about it for your own pet.
EVEN if the Melamine came from China, where were the QUALITY CONTROL people In the US when 100 MILLION POISONED PRODUCTS made their way to your pets bowl? There is NO VALID excuse for this.

I've been wondering about this too, since in a few weeks I'll be bringing home a new puppy. Here is some information that I found.

Menu Foods recall information

I also found this, which is a claims form for sick pets, listing all the pet foods involved..dated May 17, 2007...

I'm so glad that no pet food has been recalled in Australia. Even if they were, I only feed my cats the food that hasn't been recalled in the US (Innova). Anyway, yes, recalls are still going on and as far as I know, there are no "safe" pet foods available in stores. You can either feed your dog a BARF diet (raw meat, raw vegetables and raw fruit) or you can feed something very healthy, nutritious and something that hasn't been recalled. Eg. Innova, California Natural, Canidae or Solid Gold. All of these pet foods are healthy and safe!

Is this STILL a problem in your country? This business has been going on for months now, at least judging by the number of anguished questions being asked about it on this site. Can't your manufacturers get their act together? How about you boycott all of them and choose a good pet food that's manufactured in a country where they oversee standards properly? Thank goodness we haven't had any of these problems over here!
