I think it is. Obviously you have to notify the Post Office and they will let you know if there are any problems

It's not illegal, as an example, our house is called King's Head, but to differentiate from the pub up the road, we call it King's Head Cottage.
Our version of the address is fine and we get the post OK, however anything official, even down to Tesco home shopping is held in the postal address database and comes to King's Head without the Cottage. The only way to get this changed is to approach your local council.

If you live at 10, Coronation street Manchester ma15 0bz
you can hardly call it 10 Athletic Way Edinburgh ma15 0bz
Although the post office identifies your address with number ( or name ) and post code, you will definitely lose some of your mail and probably upset the local council.

I was going to put an alternate post box on my house marked (number)A to the same address. I reckon you could get away with that.

It is alright to change a p.o. box number. You will have to go see the postmaster.
