Let me get this straight:

After all the trouble we've had with religion, what the world really needs is -- more religion?

Have I got that right?

Yeah, that's right along with "after religious fundamentalists attacked us on 9/11, we need a religious fundamentalist to run the United States".

Some people apparently have their heads so far up their burros that the dark looks like light.

Every religionist will readily agree you with you that every religion in the world is a curse on humanity - except of course, their own. They have no defensible basis for this conviction. They have merely been brainwashed to it from an early age and would have the same opinion of a different religion if they'd been reared in another culture. Acquiesence to one's cultural conditioning isn't being spiritual. It's just "monkey see, monkey do." We've had quite enough of that.

I've often thought it ironic that theists propound arguements against evolution, when they themselves are the living definition of unevolved. Theists should just say, "C'mon. Look at me! Do I act evolved to you? See any sign that I'm adapting?" It would be a more powerful argument than ID.

No, what we need is to "And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden."

Woodstock
by Joni Mitchell (1969)

I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
When I asked him, "where are you going?"
This he told me

I'm going down to Yasgur's farm
Gonna join a rock and roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
And try and get my soul free

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
I feel just like a cog
In something turning

Well maybe it's the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But life is for learning

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

By the time I got to Woodstock
They were half a million strong
Everywhere there was song and celebration

I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above our nation

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

The problem with religion is that like most good things, it goes too far. I love God absolutely, but when 500 people listen only to the one preacher they tend to lose the great sense of self worth that motivates them to make rational decisions......(See 2000,2004 elections.) In moderation, religion can center you and strengthen your need to do good things. Unfortunately, religion is not about moderation. Also, since every Church breaks the law about not endorsing a political candidate, it confuses its parisioners into thinking bending the law is Ok, not a good thing.

No we need to have understanding between the faiths.

We need the Abrahamic faiths to understand their faiths are related & more similar than different. & so stop killing themselves in the name of the same Jewish/X-ian/Islamic God.

We ALSO need the Abrahamic faiths to understand that non-Abrahamic religions are valid - & I include the atheists because the lack of religion is still a form of spirituality

Good ideas drive out bad ideas. We need more good art, good science, good engineering, and good theology.

If we get rid of every part of world culture that has a bad side, we'll be naked and chasing each other around trees waving sticks until we die of the common cold.

That's what some people would have us believe. I think we would be better off with less religion in our lives. Then again, what would happen to all the little sheep if they couldn't use "God's will" for anything they don't understand.

We need for all these anti-Christ people to start believing in Christ. We need to give God back his working visa for the U.S. because he has a lot of work to do here. We need God. We need a lot more kindness, compassion and Love in the world. If everyone followed the teachings of the Bible it would be a lot nicer world.
