What it means is, if 2 GSD were mated from that had low hip scores or hereditary problems than there is a chance the puppy's will have these problems therefore being poor bred, people do this to make money not thinking about the consequences. If two GSD are bred from that are kennel club registered and have good hip scores and no underlying conditions they will be well bred. When buying a dog a good breeder will have all these documents for you to see and you will always see the mother with her pups, always be abit suspicious if the breeder doesn't show you the mum or the kennel club documents.
If the GSD is an adult or older puppy it is very hard to determine if it is well bred, you will begin to notice if from a Early age if they get hip dyplasia and other conditions.
Also temperament in the dogs as you wouldnt want two aggressive GSD being bred from.

A well bred dog means simply that it has good genetics and that it has no real health problems that occur for the specific breed. A Pure Bred dog means that it is a "pure " blood dog, such as a registered dog is, I raise Pure Bred Yorkshire Terriers and Shih-Tzus. The color of a dogs tongue has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it is a pure bred dog except that a Chow Chow dog and A Sharpei dog both have what is referred to as a blue tongue most other breeds of dogs have solid pink tongues.
A well bred GSD as I own 2 have no hip Displaysia and no knee or joint defaults. A poor bred GSD is bred from GSD stock that is known to have these heredity defects or the preponderance to have them. However not have the dogs checked for these disorders is almost as bad in the eyes of most GSD clubs and AKC, the breeding of the dogs though not prohibited is frowned upon and without the proper paper work showing no defects the dogs pups would then be considered poor bred

The parents have approprate health testing (definatally hips in the GSD). They have been tested in show/ dog sports against other dogs and are worthy members of the breed. There will be a difference between a well breed GSD SHOW dog and a well bred preformance GSD. The show dog has a sloping rear that contributes to the gorgous long sweeping smooth trot so loved in the show ring- the prefomacne dog will have his hid legs more under him (better jumping & agility - poorer trot) and since shuzhund is big with the preformace GSD will be more forcefull in temperment.
PS Hip displasia IS known (not even uncommon) in the german bred GSD

Different races of dogs were produced by selective breeding. Sometimes, two dogs too close in blood are mated, such as a brother and a sister, if the breeder is looking for a particular characteristic. When you breed animals too close in blood, there is the possibility of genetic defects. Selective breeding would, in time, reduce or eliminate these defects. A well-bred dog is one that comes from ancestors who were known to be free of defects. A poor-bred dog is one where the ancestry was not examined for defects. The dog may be OK today, but a defect may surface later, or the dog may produce descendants with defects. In theory, selective breeding will eliminate all defects, and dogs would produce defective descendants at the same low rate than wild animals. In practice, many types of dog have defects that come up even in the best of them. In this context, a well-bred dog is one that comes from ancestors who were known to be as free of defects as the race allows. A poor-bred dog is one where the ancestry was not examined for defects. GDS may mean the particular defect that a particular race shows. There are several terms.

it means the dog was breed from partents the are of top quility breeding and have been OFA tested and are also free from health problems. OFA means the hips are in there proper place. which is one of the thing that GSD do have a problem with. the german breed GSD are better and stronger in the rear ends than the american breed dogs.l

It would help if you could use the correct terminology!!
It's WELL BRED or POORLY bred!!
A WELL BRED animal of any breed...any SPECIES...is made by a REPUTABLE breeder ,from the BEST stock available, bred to the BEST stock...AFTER *BOTH* have -at MINIMUM-finished their CONFORMATION CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!
THOSE animals are by&out of the SAME HIGH QUALITY stock....going back GENERATIONS.
And....ALL offspring a RIGOROUSLY *CULLED* for conformation,temperament & health!
POORLY bred stuff is made by a greedy, lazy,UNETHICAL imbecile who sticks ANY two POS together, couldn't tell quality if it bit him on the azz & DOESN'T *CARE*!

If you and your sister had children together, they wouldn't be well-bred.

Look at their tongue, if it is pink, it is a pure bred, if it is a mix mutt, then the tongue will not be pink......
I'm not specific, but our two dogs are both pure bred chihuajuas, yes, very fortunate for me, with all the barking they do.
Look at their tongue.......
