I would pick the Hyatt though the Marriott is very nice. There is some good hiking near Waiamea Canyon just to the West of Poipu, and there is good hiking on the Na Pali coast on the North side of the Island. We loved Honalei Beach near Princeville and Honalei. There are beautiful beaches around the whole island, but one of the most beautiful is called the aquarium by the locals and it is at the end of the road which runs on the North side of the Island.

I'd have to say the Hyatt. Poipu beach was one of the nicest I've snorkeled at. Also take a kayak trip up the Wailua River. We had a lot of fun, maybe because it was pouring rain on us!! we rented kayaks at a place right down the road from the river, you'll see the banana boats out front and advertisement, a guide takes the group out to the launch area and will help you with all you need. you paddle up the river past the jurassic park site, then get out of the kayak and hike up to a water fall. good to go with the guide since getting lost on a hike would kinda ruin a honeymoon...or make it interesting ;) sign up one day in advance for the morning trip.

I was in Hawaii for my honeymoon and I highly recommend the Marriott Kaua'i. It is very beautiful, and has a private setting. Marriott also has a vacation club there so you may want to look into renting a Condo as opposed to staying in the main hotel. You will have all the amenities but I think the condos provide a little more seclusion.
The Marriott is also close to the airport and also centrally located. This will save you a lot of time when driving to the different sides of the island.

Stay at the Hyatt, at Poipu, as you are on the south shore, and the beaches there are really nice. Lihue, is busy, so get out of there and go to poipu. We stayed at Hanalei Bay, on the north shore, and it is awesome, but they do get a bunch of rain, and there is plenty of mosquito's there. The easiest way to see the whole Island is take a helicopter tour, as they cover the whole Island, but take the best co. you can find, as there were 2 accidents last year with helicopters. We flew out of princeville, and we had a great time. I live here on Maui, and I love to go to Kauai, but when I go again, I will probably stay on the south shore. Get the book Kauai Revealed, and it will tell you everything you need to know. Have fun, Aloha............

You want to choose the Hyatt most definitely. And because you'll be in Poipu, you'll be close to places to kayak and hike. Plus, it's the most beautiful part of the island.
Don't know if you've been to Kauai before, but just a 'heads up'...I found it to be the most laid back of all the islands I've been to (we were there last May). There really isn't much going on. I love the beach and unfortunitely, didn't find one that I really loved.
Good luck and congrats!
