Our year 12 (6th form) class at school at school was recently talking about the trinity, what it was, and a diagram that would best represent it.
We didn't really come to any real conclusion (as we had expected) and was curious to hear other peoples views and ideas.

A a picture of some of the diagrams that we discussed is found here:

Please could you have a look and tell us which diagram you think represents the trinity best (or worst!) and if you can, tell us what you think about the trinity.

One of the main questions we had was what is the difference between the Father, and God, so if you could help us out with that to! ;-)

Thanks!

Diagrams: (rough descriptions, check out the top link)
1 - God IS the Son(Jesus) and The "Spirit" is their spirit.
2 - Father, Son, and Spirit are all part of God
3, 6, 8 - Father, Son, and Spirit MAKE UP God. (God is made up of them.)
4, 5, 7, 9 - GOD, the Son, and the Spirit are one. (or make up one)

God is a spirit (John 4:24). God is only one but He made Himself into three persons as the Father, as the Son, and as the Holy Spirit. Is this impossible with God?

The spirit of God as the Father talked to Moses and the prophets in the Old Testament. This same spirit of God dwelt in the body of a human being who we call as Jesus. After Jesus was crucified, He ascended to Heaven and came back as a spirit, the Holy Spirit. In order to know if a spirit is Jesus Himself, his declarations should agree with the accounts and statements of Jesus in the Bible. Otherwise, he may just be an impostor.

With regards to your diagrams, you said that diagrams 4, 5, 7 and 9 represent “God, the Son, and Spirit are one. (or make up one)” These diagrams may be correct except that instead of God, is should be represented as the Father, because God is the Father Himself, or Jesus Himself, or the Holy Spirit. I don’t agree in No. 9 which is a hierarchy. The three persons are one and the same as represented in No. 7. Better still is No. 2.

A pretzel......
Three holes, formed by one piece of dough, to make 1 object.

I haven't heard any better ones. Water, steam, and ice doesn't work because something has to happen for water to take on these states. The Trinity is what it is with no cause or effect. So a pretzel is all that I have found to explain it.

I have seen many in my time and I still prefer the symbol of the shamrock used by St.Patrick to explain the Trinity, of the ones you have shown though the circles are the best I think.

I think the best symbol of it are 3 interlocking circles...the circles giving out the meaning that they are all eternal, they are all apha and omega and the fact that these are interlocked means that they are connected but at the same time separate from each other.

the trinity is polytheism, accepting that makes the whole affair alot easier.

the whole issue comes from the mental dissonance your trying to resolve in saying 1+1+1=1... it simply doesn't work.

My dear

your link is not working.

Because you copied it from another question I suspect. and I am almost sure it is one of your previous questions that you have asked.

God bless
