Does a copy and pasted quotation constitute an answer? I'm not talking about when a quote is used to substantiate or verify an answer, I'm referring to biblical quotes, when the person doesn't offer their own thoughts too? Is it a true answer if it doesn't offer any personal insight or belief.

God permits this from brain-dead followers.

I guess it depends on the question, if you are asking for a quote or a "where does it say something about" then it constitutes an answer. But if your question is asking for an opinion then that is where I feel a quote from some book is not appropriate as you are not showing an opinion but just regurgitating learned information without forming an individual opinion. Those type of answers just show that people cannot think for themselves.

I think on rare occasion it might constitute an acceptable answer. For example if the question asked, "what does the New Testament say about pink bunny rabbits?" in that case an answer like 3 Acts 12:5 "Thou shalt not dye bunny rabbits pink." is a good answer. But if the question was something along the lines of "Why don't we dye bunny rabbits pink?" then quoting 3 Acts 12:5 instead of quoting 3 Acts 12:5 and saying "I think we aren't supposed to exploit animals for our own personal amusement and pink dye hurts the environment." is not really an answer.

I've got a Bible. I know what it says. Most of the time if you are going to refer to the Bible, I'd really rather hear what you think about it.

When someone quote sth then they mean to give their messages throught their quotations.
For example, when you want to say something bad about Islam you can bring mis-interpreted quote of Quran to show that Islam is a bad thing.
So quotationa withput personal point of view means to forward some messages in the answerer mind.

Copy and Paste my 9 year old grandaughter can do as she does not have perhaps the ability to relate to adults trying to debate (for want of a better word) a religious issue. Personally when I read answers in R&S and I can see its been C&P and takes up 12" of the screen (which I find offensive) I pass it without reading as its not from someones heart or mind, only from some script........Which brings me to a thought.... these people that do this..... Do they have a mind of their own or are they brainwashed?.....

Yes, unreadably long copy/paste pages of scripture constitute a non-answer. I don't think I'd ever consider nothing but scads and scads of Biblical quotes as a best answer.

Mostly I ignore the quotes, but sometimes they are reasonable. But someone who posts 30 links and 20 quotes is just a fanatic, and makes me as a Christian feel like an idiot.

I suppose it does constitute an answer but really don`t you prefer an answer that is not contrived and is from the members own store of knowledge and life experience,I know I do.
Frantically rushing to Wikipedia etc, is not quite what Q&A`s is about unless you are desperate for praise and points.

naaaaah

"polly wants a cracker!"

There's a nice story i heard in this regard. In our Hare Krishna tradition, uttering the names of God (Hare Krishna) at the final breath is very good, because whatever one thinks of at the time of death, the soul will go there. Godly people generally spend their whole lives cultivating rememberance of God so that they can remember Him and His names at the last.

So a parrot can be trained to chant "Hare Krishna!" all its life, haha, but if you grab it by the neck it will go "SKWAAAAWK!!" lol.

The idea is repitition without realisation is, um, kinda brainless. lol

But there's no harm, repitition of a good thing is a good thing :)

I don't really think so! I like when people use quotes in an answer to strengthen it but if they do not understand why they are using it or can't explain why it's relevant to them it annoys me!

People who answer any question with a bible quote are morons! I do not believe the bible and I hate it when people expect it to answer a question.

Why not just type: %^&3ijd97yet98043890t?

Give me a real frickin answer that makes sense and not some crappy verse that has been minstranslated and abused and has nothing to do with what we are talking about!

The bible means SH*T to me! I don't care and I don't want to hear it!
