.... look at other people's shopping and judge them based on what they're purchasing? ;-)

I do - and I hate it if I've just bought a pizza, cake and wine when the person behind me has a basket full of organic vegetables and spring water ;-)

Judge them? No. Sometimes when someone obviously has a *huge* load of junk food and alcohol I wonder if they're hosting a party or always eating that but hey, it's none of my business, I don't assume it's all they ever eat and even if they did, why should I *judge* them on it? Their choice, their business.

Yes! When I see a family with nothing but prepared food from the freezer aisle rounding out there cart, along with little debbie cakes and sodas. I have an opinion. So when I feel lazy one night and go in and just get a premade pizza or a frozen lasagna, I will think what do these people think of me? I also really think that when my 2 girls are with me and I let them get a lunchables, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, etc. I rarely ever let them eat that stuff, but once in awhile its a nice treat. But the other shoppers don't know that. Most of the time I am buying lots of fruits and veggies, along with chicken and other healthy low fat foods. So I wonder if people think I am a diet freak! I worked at a grocery store and it is amazing what idea you make of a person by there shopping cart contents. You get the little old ladies with there jug of vodka, or the single man with the prepared foods, the vegetarian, or the poor person that is trying to shop organically in a store that doesn't have much to chose from there. I try hard not to judge people but the thoughts do enter my mind. The best thing is to go into a store and be picking up hemroid cream, a pregnancy test , femine hygene products/meds , or something from the sex department (i.e. condoms, lubes...) Yeah you all have looked at someone with these products and thought something, I do. I think its hard not to, its just the way our minds go. If anyone thinks they do not do this, think about this, have you ever tried to conceal these items or by them at a different store than you normally shop? If you never think anything of it then why not just walk along with it and throw it up on the counter like you would if you were buying a cd?

I can barely keep up with all the stuff my husband and son are throwing in the cart to look at anyone else's groceries.!
You sound like you may be feeling guilty about your food choices and my recommendation is that you start eating some of what you enjoy.
I love to make huge dinners---( I realized anything I cook gets eaten) so now, I can choose between time spent cooking (& cleaning the kitchen) or time spent somewhere else(not telling).

I do sometimes remember an item I forgot when I happen to notice something in another cart.

Yes, and take it from a former supermarket manager, so do the chaps working on the checkout, it's a boring job and it's the only entertainment, you can easily tell the single people!!! And also, why is it that when i check out other people's shopping, it always seems so much more exciting than my own!!??

lol sometimes i have a nosey just to see if there's anything i might have missed, i have the attention span of a chip and often have to go round and round the supermarket remembering what i need!!! also my 4 year old daughter loves to pick up things when i'm not looking and shove it in the trolley, and through the height of embarrassment when i get to the checkout i won't put them back because she looks at me with such a sweet face and so proud cause she's helped 'mummy do the shopping', costs me a fortune lol. i don't judge people for their shopping tho i just wonder sometimes, an elderly gentleman had a large trolley half was filled with bottled water and other half was washing powder huge amounts!!

Oh all the time. It's like a weird little window into people's interior lives. Once I bought a Lean Cuisine, a small cake, and two six packs--for dinner, for my roommate's b-day, and a party I was going to the next day, respectively. I've never quite forgiven myself for what seemed to be a public declaration of being single and pathetic. I suppose I should've learned a valuable lesson there.

Well, I don't really care what other people are buying! But when I'm in the queue and seeing the persons' items I can guess their intentions. For example if their basket is full of beer or wine, it can be for a party!

But, I wonder what the cashier girl, thinks? Does she judge people? What is she thinking about me?

I often guess what she must thinking when she validates and passing the items I bought at the barcode reader!

Can she guess my living style and income, just by seeing at the items I bought?

I don't judge them, but I do look at their stuff.

Sometimes I wonder why they buy all the stuff they buy, especially foods that are bad for you.

One time where I can't help but judge is when a really overweight person has nothing but hot dogs, beef, frozen bagel bites, candy, cakes and snack foods, etc., in their cart. I wonder to myself if that is the same person who swears up and down that they eat like a bird and still gain weight.

Then I correct myself by reminding myself that "there but for the grace of God go I" and I wish them well.

You bet I look at what other people are purchasing. It does tell a lot about them. Listen to what they are chatting about with the cashier and see if their purchases add up. If they swear they are lactose intolerant but have 6 containers of ice cream, you know they are full of crap.
Then there are the status conscious shoppers who have to buy the newest and greatest whatever and won't shut up about it.
My basket? It's full of whatever is on sale or markdown and nothing else. So, I guess that makes me the cheap shopper.

Well i try not to but your waiting in a cue and theres nothing else to do i think most people tend to,some times you,ll see wild children ruining around and then one of there fowl mouthed parents will shout at them i look in their trolley and see loads of boxes full of things like pizza, pies, frozen donner kebabs.burgers, large bags of crisps and many bottles of fizzy pop. There no fruit or veg and not even an animal that has not been cut up and made into some shape and i sure the kids must fish fingers are a kind of fish, then i look into my trolley and can,t help feeling a sense of pride knowing i,m making an effort to feed my children as they should be,i know
that may sound a bit high and mighty(a hope not) but that,s how i feel.
And it,s not a question of cost with a bit of thought all parents could fill there trolleys with a weeks worth of good Healthy food as apposed to a weeks worth of crap for the same money,it will take a little longer to prepare but our kids are worth it are,rt they.
