I suggest the next time you go to that store you have YOUR OWN counterfeit marker and when they give you change for a twenty, you mark them and then pretend to examine each one very closely, alternating pointedly looking up at the cashier as you do each bill.
If she says anything about it, remark, "Frankly, I don't like the way you look," and then go back to marking the next bill.
What're they gonna do about it?

I wouldn't take it personally, because I've never seen a person that I've known to pass counterfeit bills nor have I ever passed a counterfeit bill (to my knowledge). I doubt that anyone at any of these shops, has, either, so I have no clue on what they would base their stereotypes. So I would guess that the shop has recently been a victim of receiving some counterfeit money, and is just taking extra precautions to prevent such a thing happening in the future. Also, if it were a large-scale counterfeit operation, I've heard that they do work more with the small money than with the large denominations, because it's easier to pass off and less frequently checked.

We had a rash of counterfeit bills, all denominations, a few months ago. Our cashiers were under orders to check EVERY bill. Just because you've never had someone mark small denominations doesn't mean it never happens.
It happens a lot. In our area counterfeiters did more 20s and 10s than big bills.
We got almost $300 worth and we had four 20s, 15 tens, the rest was a mix of ones and fives.

I usually don't buy many things in stores. Last year I had some last minute gift shopping to do and if I ordered it online like I usually do it would not be in on time. So, I went to the store bought a few things and when I went to pay for them the cashier marked the bills. I didn't know what that meant. I was told it was to make sure the money wasn't counterfeit, but I have never seen it happen to anyone else, and I was kind of offended, since people usually give me mean looks. I have shopped there many times since then, though.

I've had cashiers check my bills many times before, but never a one dollar bill. Still, I wouldn't be insulted, it could simply be that she is being extra careful. Maybe one of your bills looked a little funny to her, or maybe she just got into trouble over recently accepting a fake bill. You really have no way of knowing what was going through her mind. I would give that store one more chance. Pay attention to how they handle the other customers, and if it looks like they are targeting only you with their counterfeit marker, then take your business elsewhere.

The clerk may have been trained to check 'everything' -- the store got stuck with a counterfiet, someone she knows did, or whatever.
Or, like another poster said, maybe she just really likes the marker! Possible that she's obsessive-compulsive, or simply forgetful? If she checks 'all' the bills, she never gets in trouble for missing the 'important' ones.

Sorry to say all bills can be easily counterfeited now adays. I work in a casino. You wouldn't believe how tricky they can be. Really check your 5's -20's & 100's. Go get yourself a pen at a Staples...Walgreen's ...where ever but there's not guarantee. Even that will catch it.

I wouldn't take it too personally. I've had 10's and 5's checked. I once said something, and they said that people were getting "smarter" and instead of making big bills they were making smaller ones and getting away with it seeing as they're rarely checked. So of course, i'd still shop there. I doubt it had to do with the way you looked.

Calm down. Maybe the clerk just loves using the marker. Pay more attention to whether she gives you the correct change. If you look for reasons to take offense, you'll always find them.

I would be a little offended but I would probably shop there again...I once used an older 100 dollar bill and they had to call the manager to verify that it was not counterfeit. talk about embarrassing.
