Yes, they should. But no, they are not. I'm not really sure why. Perhaps because modesty seems to be valued more in women than men.
I've noticed it too. For example, in the locker room, women's showers are ususally private but the men's locker rooms tend to have wide open community showers.(maybe because women have periods and need more privacy?)
Also, my husband tells of the story of being in basic training where the bathroom was a big room with a bunch of toilets side by side with no partitions. For the men. Women had individual private toilets.
Also, in public bathrooms, men have urinals all out in the open.
It's a weird thing. But I do agree that it shouldn't be that way.

I don't think so. Nudity is no big deal in our house. We all run around naked, me, my hubby and our boys. What is wrong is that you and your sister were treated differently. Some people don't have hangups about nudity, there isn't anything really wrong with it. Some people have issues with it. For us, we don't really have an issue with nudity, I won't run around naked in front of guests, my husband doesn't dress as much as I do but he doesn't let the family jewels go free. Our boys don't care much but we do try to keep them in clothes around other people. If we had girls, we would treat them the same. Things may change as the boys get older, they may not, but my sisters and I never had too many hangups about being naked so I doubt my kids will.

Boys and girls should be raised with the same concept of nudity and decency. If you are stricter on girls than boys, then the boys will not understand the big deal about girls not wanting to be naked 24-7, and this can lead to abuse and even rape.

Oh my if one day did not go buy that I did not have to see one of my boys in his skibbies I would pass out from shock!
All boys here so I guess I would not know how girls are raised?
i give my boys there privacy, but making my boys dress is a chore all on its own......I just ask that they put cloths on fully, when friends come over (which they to are boys so....this doesn't happen all the time), and definitely when going outside or if a "girl" comes over.....(I am mom, I am no longer a gender I am just mom).

Your situation sounds like an INCREDIBLY isolated incident. Most opinions about male nudity VS. female nudity are along the lines of "female nudity is the human body at its most beautiful, while male nudity is something that should have a big censor bar over it".

I don't think anyone should be ashamed/embarrassed of their body. Especially with your family.
I wouldn't walk around naked in my parents home, but in my home I am very comfortable doing it, and so is my husband.

i think that both boys and girls should be taught to respect themselves enough to keep their private parts private. there is a difference between being ashamed of your body and being respectful of your body. with respect for self i dont believe parents should allow their children to see them naked, and after a certain age kids need that privacy too.
