Polio is a very serious disease which im sure u already know...I would not go directly to an orthopedic, I would go see my primary care physician. If your husband has polio, he probly sees the MD all the time anyway, but your Prim care MD can refer you to a Polio specialist in your area. Just because he has hip pain doesnt mean you need to see a hip doctor. Polio is a virus that is usually asymptomatic, but when it does infect the central nervous system, its going to cause a LOT more problems than hip pain, u can be assured of that. Many people get lower motor neuron damage which manifests as paralysis and atrophy of the musculoskeletal system. Ive never heard of hip pain in polio patients, but they often present with headaches and general muscular pain. Go see your primary care doc, he'll give u more info and hook u up with someone who really knows polio.

First go to your family doctor. He will make appointments to specialists.
I had a family member who was in the same boat, he did not go in for a very long time. This was not good results.
Go in and see your family doctor....

If you're sure it is polio then an orthopedic surgeon. If not, consult an oncologist.

Go and see your primarycare physician who may have you referred to an orthopedist or hip doctor.

Maybe an orthopedic doctor? They are experts in skeletal problems.
