they hung a lot of innocent people, who knows if they ever caught a real witch? the witch hunts were motivated by financial gain, the accuser got the accused witch's property after they were killed, which is why so few were burned since burning was an expensive process

They tortured and murdered many of the people that were accused of being witches. It is unlikely that any of them were witches, it would appear they were all Christians. There is plenty of information about it online if you want all the gory details.
