If they're trained to use it properly, sure, why not?
No restrictions on buying baseball bats, yet anyone could kill someone with just a few hard swings to the head. As the great George Carlin said, "You could probably beat someone to death with the Sunday New York Times, couldn't you?"
A crazy person will find a way. Why not allow the 'non-crazies' to protect themselves, with arms if they want to?
The saying goes: "if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." Just think about that for a moment--do we really want to give criminals that advantage, since they obviously wouldn't care about getting a gun illegally? Wouldn't most crime (which is petty) be prevented if the mugger or bank robber ISN'T able to count on his/her victim(s) being just as armed as he is and able to 'fight back' if need be?

An armed society is a polite society. If more people had weapons you wouldn't see crazy people busting into schools and killing 20 or 30 people. The crazy people would be taken out quickly. It is important to note in Washington DC hand guns were banned for decades because some people thought it would be safer. That proved to be false as it told the criminals that everyone was unarmed and fit to be robbed. In cities that allow concealed weapons the crime rates (murder/robbery) are much lower. Saying guns kill people is like saying pencils cause misspelled words. Military members handle weapons all the time and you don't see mayhem among the ranks. It takes training and discipline.

Should the average American be allowed to carry a gun ?
Probably not. A gun is basically a very powerful tool and machine, not everyone is capable or qualified for handling it.
Should it be outlawed ? Definitely no. As they say, "If guns are outlawed, then only outlaws will have guns"
Will the elimination of firearms also eliminates social voilence in the future ? I highly doubt it, as the guns would just be replaced by others means of destruction like fire, poison and many forms of explosives.
Violence is from within, the killing and destruction is only the manifestation of it.

What about when people are under the influence? I think that impairs their judgment a lot and if they had a gun on themselves they would most likely lose control. That is a little bit too irresponsible. With a weapon you can kill A LOT of people in no time. Guns should be prohibited to everyone except to law enforcement officers and such. Those who were able to obtain guns anyway should face the consequences, that is harsh punishment (imprisonment and payment of fines).

I am an Australian and after a similar shooting in Tasmania at Port Arthur the Federal Government passed a law making it illegal to have guns - unless you were a member of a shooting club and there all kinds if strict rules on where the gun can be kept and where the ammunition can be stored.
Most of Australians were very happy about the law. but unfortunately there still some guns in the hands of crooks.

Technically No. You need a carry permit to have a concealed weapon, or a loaded weapon in your car. To get one you need to show a good reason why. They are not issued to the average Jo.
It is not difficult to get a gun legally or illegally, and the penalties for being caught with a concealed weapon are a little more than a slap on the wrist.
Personally, I think we need much tougher gun control laws. I don't believe I am in the majority on this issue though.
The bible belt is probably the biggest opponent to tougher gun control laws.

not the average American. the average American is an idiot. but certainly the above average American. we do have a gun problem in America but that keeps us from having many of the problems that other countries are facing.Nazi Germany was the first industrialized nation to have gun control. Hitler bragged about how safe Germans would now be. But without Guns the Jews had no chance to fight . Our Government will never become truly tyrannical as long as we have guns.

people carrying guns doesnt not solve crime.. i am a criminal justice major and a matter of fact most people who leave their homes while carrying a gun (for their protection not for a crime) actually end up committing a crime because they feel they have the power to do something... and in arguemnts it may be easier to use than a fist....besides i wouldnt trust a civilian shooting a weapon period! let the police do their job
it doesnt matter if u get some stupid permit? wow u shot a gun twice ur a sharpshooter huh?
