I frequently see you saying that I have my choice as to whether or not I want to break all of god's laws.
However, in light of the fact that our Justice system is Christian controlled, and based of Christian ideology, and Christians are an extension of god, I find this to be false.
What gives you the right to infringe upon my free will by telling me I cannot murder you? How has God allowed me free will, if his followers [and thus by proxy, him] make rukles that they can prevent me from breaking.
And yes, I understand accountability, but that would more apply to whoever I harmed's close friends and family, not an ambiguous ruling body.

Do you really want to live in an anarchist's society? Even the Romans had rules and they didn't follow christian laws (at first). Stop being so ignorant.
Don't give these christians further ammunition. The absence of religion does not necessarily mean lawlessness.
That is what we have been trying to prove all along!

Actually, you do have a choice, but hear me out: Not every person that wrote any of the laws on the books today was a christian, or even a believer, so that's not fair. A group of people decided the basics.
Let's take your tac for awhile: let's throw out all of the laws. As of this moment, none exist. Now, you can murder me if you want, and I, you. (I never would of course). You say that accountability would apply more to my friends and family. Do you really think that's true? I mean, if a murderer moved in two doors down from you and killed one of the neighbors, can't you see a block party being established to go and wash the guy out and bring him to justice? That's vigilante justice. And I sure can see it happening. The reason why laws got written is just to give us a governing body of principles so we could all manage to co-exist in society without killing each other, stealing each other, or infringing too much on each other's rights.
As to God's laws, yes, you have a choice. You choose all of your behaviors. And only you can. That means your free will is still fully intact. That's where what Paul said in the bible comes into play, "not all things are profitable for me." You get to choose. But the consequences aren't just here because of christians. They are here because society wrote the rules. And I have to say, I'm sure your talking mostly about christianity's less popular stances on soem topics, rather than trying to say christianity took away your rights and free will. That's not true. What are you sitting doing right now? It could be illegal and immoral for all I know, and I am not able to stop you. So I still say, your choices are your own. God is only asking you to choose wisely, and self-preservation just brings you peace. But you are always free to choose otherwise.

No one ever said that you can not murder anyone. They just said that if you do then you will go to prison. Besides, murder is more of a moral issue than a religious one. Everyone knows the impact that murder has on the victims family and on society as a whole. Human life is important and it is not ours to take. This is the main reason why you will go to jail if you murder someone.
This has nothing to really do with Christianity, it has to do with basic human values. What if you had a kid, raised him/her till they were 18. Took care of them their whole life. They're your baby and you will do anything for them. Imagine what it will feel like if someone goes and takes that away from you. That child that you nurtured and loved and cared for for 18 years. Comeone now, people should get some kind of justice for that. And doing the same thing to the person that did it to your daughter/son just causes more pain with the family of that person because the family didn't have anything to do with it. This is why there are laws against this thing. Everyone would be killing everyone if there were no laws against it. The whole world would go murder crazy!
Hey, you do have free will. If you wanted to get up and smoke a pound of crack, then you could. There are just consequences. You can not blame the consequences on the Christians. Although the government might have been based on Christianity in the beginning, we know that the government hasn't even come close to abiding by Christian laws in the first place.
You have free will because you can decide to do what ever you want. Consequences only get in the way of your free will if you let them.

Rules are set for a reason. If you think that murders are not a sin or any misdemeanor for that matter, then people could murder other people as they wish. If we had no rules, people would do as they wish.
Think About It.
You are driving your favorite sports car down the road. You take it to 55MPH, then 100 MPH, then 150 MPH. You are not doing anything wrong. The are no rules right? You can even go on more to, lets say, 180MPH. After a while, a semi comes in the opposite direction on the other lane. You are driving your $250,000 sports car when the semi decides to come on your lane and totals your car. You think, "Hey! He totals my car! He's going to have to pay for it!" If there are no rules, that means that the driver of the semi did nothing wrong in coming on your lane and totaling your car. If you get damaged, he is not liable for there would be no rules. There would be chaos in the world.
There are laws for a reason. They are designed to protect. Yes, some laws may seem like they might limit your freedom. However, you have the choice of following the law or breaking it. You do not, however, have the choice (or the agency) to choose the consequence of your choice.
If you decide to make a pact with the devil, you would have used your agency to do so. However, when you make a pact with the devil, you are on his terms now and there is nothing that can get you out for you would have refused the Lord first.

I'm not really sure you are looking for a real answer... but I will give you one shot... You have choices every day.. even the choice to wake up one day and murder someone for whatever reason.... you have the free will to do this.... people exercise this free will every day, however, yes, there will be consequences. Law and consequences does not infringe upon your free will to commit an act. Actually, be following the laws that are in place they afford you MORE freedom and the ability to exercise your free will. Some of God's laws are not man's laws, and therefore you can break those laws ALL DAY EVERY DAY... You can commit adultery all day long... you can use the Lord's name in vein all day long... you can make graven images and covet anyone's wife all day long.
You can break man's and societies law all you want until you get caught... then, man's and societies punishments will come into play. God will not interfere in your actions because you have free will... and when you are to be judged you will have no excuse, because you had free will.

Our justice system is based on the founding fathers who were not all Christian, but did stick with it until they had a law they could agree upon. I find more now than ever our justice system helps those who hurt and vice versa. Why do so many people blame Christians or society instead of holding themselves accountable for their actions? That is the core problem. Quit blaming God, Christians, Society, George Bush, Osama. You have the free will to live your life as you please as long as you don't harm others. That's pretty much the basic stipulation of our law. If the laws were really based on religion we would be allowed to place ppl on death row for cheating on wives/husbands etc...
and by the way - rules are only for those who break them. the ones above the law are those who don't break it.

Yes, and this is where we are moving in government now? We murder unborn children based on individual preferrence already. What you're saying is happening. It's the ethics of individual preference over a moral standard of any kind. As it prevails more and more - we'll find mass chaos more and more - and murder in our schools, etc.... since we have lost our conscience in removing prayer from schools and the 10 commandments from being viewed - we've politicized, scientized and every other way - to get a moral standard out fo the picture. All that's left is to insert - special beliefs, special rights, special wants into the law to increase the chaos - what are you talking about - you've got the highway built already - buddy!

Hello,
God gave us free will so we aren't his little puppets on a string doing whatever he wants us to do. Dontcha appreciate that??? I do.
However, God created certain laws and made somethings right and wrong. Like murder, pre-marital sex, etc...
Sure he gave us free will but his will is the best will and he hopes all the time that we will choose his will cause it is the best for us. We have a choice, we could take advantage of our free will and do dumb stuff like murder ppl or we could thank and praise God for it and follow his ways as a sign of respect and thanks. So basically he gave us free will but doens't want us to use it, he wants us to follow hima and obey his rules. Our free will is a gift and should not be disrespected and taken advantage of.
Got it???
God Bless

sooo let me get this straight. You don't want any type of infringement on how you behave....but...you think you have a right to infringe on someone else by murdering them? Interesting. You still have free will. You can go out and murder if you choose. But...you then have to deal with the consequences.

So if are you truly saying that if the laws were not supposedly Christian controlled, then murder would be legal? that is ridiculous!!
I keep seeing weird questions about how can atheists have morals etc...and I agree when they say that they don't need God to tell them that murder, stealing etc is wrong....but apparently you are saying differently
This is one of the oddest questions I think I have seen on here, that seems to be posed as a true question.
