Japanese speakers who have seen Shogun!!! plz?

Question

what did Kasigi Yabu say, near the end when the galley rounded the bend and Blackthorne, Vinck and Yabu saw the burnt wreck of the Erasmus, Blackthorne's ship?

After Vinck and Blackthorne moaned a bit, Yabu seemed a bit upset too and made a little speech, all in unsubtitled Japanese, of course.

I am dying to know what he said, to explain his reaction to the sight.

This is my guess: Yabu had staked his future on Ishido when he had been forced to help Ishido's attempted kidnap and assassination of Lady Mariko. Yabu had seen Lord and Lady Ishido show respect to Blackthorne during Mariko's funeral, and had guessed that Ishido had plans for Blackthorne, possibly involving using the Erasmus to rob the Black Ship.

So that when Yabu saw the Erasmus was a burned wreck, he realized he'd been wrong and his karma was not as good as he'd thought. I figured Yabu saw his death coming at that point.

But I can't be sure, until I know what he said!
btw this is the tv shogun, not the movie

Yeah Kaitylynn I read the book too, I would refer to that but as best I can remember there wasn't much about it. I could check but it wouldn't be a definitive answer because they changed so much of these kinds of minor details.
I wish I could just post a link to a video clip of it, but I haven't got one. I only have it on VHS. I know... I'll write down the speech phonetically and see if anyone can figure it out.
btw yer right Yabu was a complete sociopath to us, but to his own people he was simply a bit eccentric

Well, I haven't seen the movie, but I did read the book a couple of months ago, so I'll offer my opinion based on that lol.

I'm not sure on the Japanese without seeing it or having a reference in the book (requiring it's there), but I'm under the impression that Yabu was aware of the plan to use the Erasmus to go after the Black Ship. I don't think he was specifically told, but like you said, he had guessed that those were in the plans.

Yabu really wanted only one thing, and that was power. He was constantly working for as much power as he could get, and he was willing to manipulate or betray anyone to get his way. When he realized what could happen with Blackthorne, he recognized that if he was involved he could get the power and riches that could come from it. Also, Yabu wanted the war to happen. Granted, he was also planning to be on whichever side he thought would win, and his loyalties were based solely on what he could get, but he hoped that if they went to war that he would be able to gain power and land. If I remember right, he figured that if Toranaga won (which he would be much more likely to do if they could win the Black Ship) then he'd be given the Kwanto.

I'm not sure if I'd say that he saw his death coming at that point. I think he realized that his plan was being undermined and would no longer work. He was angry that he might end up losing everything that he had worked for and that his plans had fallen through. Yabu isn't the type who takes well to not getting his way. He's also a complete sociopath lol, but I suppose that's another story. At least Toranaga had a better head on his shoulders than Yabu did. :) If I knew exactly where it was in the book I'd go find it lol, but it's over 1,000 pages long, which is a bit much for me to sift through at the moment.

to catch = tsukamaru - Bobbu wa sakana o tsukamatte imasu. to cook = they usually say 'make', which is tsukuru, but I don't know when they use riyouri suru (riyouri is noun for cooking and adding suru would make it a verb)... Bob-san wa sakana riyouri wo tsukutte imasu. to clean - souji suru or katazukeru (katazukeru means 'organize') Bob san wa daidokoro o souji shite imasu/ katazukete imasu. Mou bangohan desu! mou - already bangohan or yuushoku(not sure) - dinner desu... i bet you already know what this is. or bangohan no jikan desu. (jikan = time)
