IF you are out of the country 24-48 hours it is $50 ....
Less than 24 hours, officially, none .... HOWEVER, I have never had a problem bringing back $75 or so as long as I had receipts and NO tobacco or alcohol products.

You can bring back as much as you want as long as you declare it and pay duty on it.

Duty free you can bring back $50 but no booze or tobacco.

Here's the break down:

Residents returning to Canada:
After 24 hr absence...C$50
--No Tobacco and Liquor

After 48 hr absence...C$200
Tobacco...200 Cigarettes and 50 Cigars
Liquor....40 oz. (1.14 Litres)

After 7 days absence...C$750
Tobacco...200 Cigarettes and 50 Cigars and 200g of Tobacco
Liquor....1.14 litres of liquor or 1.5 litres of wine
