I was in prayer before and I was in tears because of the sins I have committed. I know I will never be perfect only God is, but it seems like I struggle over the same things over and over again. I feel emotions of sadness and some regret. Years ago these sins would be like no big deal now I grieve over them

Have you ever felt a lot of emotion of what you have done or what you have failed to do? What are good Bible verses to overcome sin and to be more Holy? Thank you in advance for your answers and peace be with you.

Grieving over sin , means that you are becoming more and more sensitive to the Holy Spirit- which is good. There is a passage of scripture that has really become alive for me about this very issue- hope it helps you.

Colossians 3

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5PUT TO DEATH, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Those 3 words- PUT TO DEATH- is the key here- we can truly sorry and even confess our sins, but until we literally kill what is within us that is sin , then it will not go away- we need to truly repent- which means not just being sorry, but turn from the sin back to God. We all should feel regret over sin, however, God does not want us to feel condemned-that is why Jesus died to set us free. The Bible talks about us being dead to sin- there is that work- death again. God wants you to be free- that is what He died for.

Oh yes. I am no expert, but I am a human too. One thing I read that helped me a lot was that we need human accountability. Having a friend to talk to when tempted is a great help. Also if you are having a really hard time with one specific thing you may want to talk to a pastor or a Christian counselor to help get to the root of the problem and replace the sinful desires with Godly ones.

I am trying to give you practical advice because I have been and am still there where all the niceties and pat answers just don't cut it. It is such a fight. The devil may even ease off for a while and make you think you are doing great only to press so hard you fall even farther than before. Don't let him win. Here are some verses for you to look up and claim. Oh and don't forget, Jesus has done and will do anything possible to make sure you are in heaven with Him. All of heaven is at your disposal to win this victory for His glory.

The answers you are looking for probably aren't in the bible. You need to look within yourself and figure out what it is that is making these "sins" affect you so deeply. Have you done something terribly wrong that you want to confess but are afraid to and therefore cover it up by admitting to other lesser sins. or have you commited so many "minor sins" you feel it is too many for your god to forgive. I do believe that your relationship with your god would be better helped by discovering the source of your sadness rather than reciting scripture. (I say "your God" because I am not christian and believe in a different sort of "divine" but I still respect the religion and those who follow it thus I offer objective advice. I hope it helps.)

John 3:16

This one is all I need, and I have remembered and held on to this promise many many times.

Psalms 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions (sin) from us.

Just think of it like this: Once you ask for forgiveness and recognize the sin God doesn't hold it against you anymore neither should you!! He knows we are imperfect and expects us to stumble, He is there to lift us up and help us move on.
Hope this helps in some way hun
God bless.

I don't know about any verse to suggest. I have a book that list life's problems and gives you verses that deal with that, then I can go to those verses and read and meditate on them. Like loneliness, impatience, doubt, dislike, etc.

Here, I just looked up 'hope' and it lists these verses:
Job 13:15 (keep hoping)
Job 19:25-26 (eloquent declaration of hope)
Psalm 31:24 (hope in the Lord)
Psalm 42:5;Jeremiah 31:15-17 (antidote for despair)
Romans 4:18 (hope against all hope)

I pray some of these may guide you in the right direction. I understand what you are talking about. I ask for forgiveness and sometimes I honestly don't think God will or has forgiven me of some of them because I seem to continue to give into the same temptations. Of course I pray that God forgives me and I know He has LOTS of patience. But if there is one or two sins that I haven't been forgiven of (And I think I know which ones), I can't be angry with Him, I can only blame myself. But when those tempting temptations keep creeping back into our lives, we have to turn to the Lord immediately. Maybe get on our knees right then and there and say the Our Father 5 times. I've seen a person do that in a bar once and he walked out. I learned later that he was a recovering alcoholic and just got of jail. He is doing fine to this day. I carry a rosary with me (am Catholic) or a blessed medal of a saint and holding it and talking to that saint helps me through things. Saint Dymphna is my patron saint. She helps me with my Bipolar Disorder and anxiety attacks. I pray to St. Michael when I feel Satan next to me. St. Michael is the archangel that fought against the devil when he was in Heaven (as Lucifer) and St. Michael will be called upon at the 2nd coming to find Satan and to lock him in hell for 1000 yrs. If you believe in the communion of saints, St. Michael is a terrific saint to call upon for help and protection againt Satan and his temptations.

Good luck with it all and God bless. You will be in my prayers tonight.

People, places, and things. Remove yourself from the people who lead you into trouble and surround yourself with those with hearts for the Lord.
Stay away from the places that you do what you know you shouldn't do.
Have nothing to do with the things that get you into trouble. Replace them with good and honorable things.
Finally remember, you are a child of God. Keep that firmly in your mind and meditate on it and your behaviour will become conformed to that image. (life long process of sanctification)

Here is one of many verses you can use.
email me if you would like more.

Your brother in Christ,
Michael

2 Corinthians 6
Do Not Be Yoked With Unbelievers
14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[b]? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."
17 "Therefore come out from them
and be separate, says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you."
18 "I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

God forgives you of your sin and takes them away, as far as the east is from the west. Just ask Him to do so in the name of Jesus.
After you do this satan will try to bring your past sin to your mind again, all of your life. Tell him 'no',' in the name of Jesus my sins are removed!'

I have felt like this. I have suffered with my sin and guilt and I knew God dint like my sin.
He forgives us and tells us to repent and turn away from it. But I couldnt do so, so I faced it all different, but I am glad that God gave me the ability to overcome.

Here's my account ..

Its satan who tempts us, so I always remember these words.
"Resist the devil and He will flee from you"
Since our God is The greatest, when we hold on to God in our temptations, He flees. Just how Jesus did when He was tempted.
