If you are flying into LAX stop at a Travelers Aid Booth. They are located in each terminal on the lower level. They have a book of Hostels. The one in SM should be fine, but no too private, but some do have private rooms. Just give them a call

??

Hostels are cheap places to sleep for younger folks who have very little money, and usually a lot of energy. It's a cheap way to travel if you don't want to spend a lot, don't want to sleep in the street, and don't mind communal living conditions. Sure, people are nice enough. Are they a bit noisy? Usually. Rowdy? Sometimes. Courteous and considerate of others trying to sleep? NOT!
