It's my daughters dog but raising her was taken over by my husband. The dog is female and yea yea I know shes possesive of him, yea when I'm around, but she does this to all the women that come to my house. She's just past a year old so the puppy should be heading out by now.

I pretty much knew she was trying to be his "#1 girl", and it can't help that he butts in when I try to disipline her, but she even does this when he's no where around. I do walk her, I do play with her and I do disipline her behavior --- everytime but it seems like I have regain control everytime I see her and it is getting very old. I have had a lab/terrier mix before and she would defend me against my exhusband more than she would him and she was his dog...go figure

Thanks to most of you for your responses as for the others ----- some of you could learn some tact in wording.

Hate to say it but Labs are sexist. She sees him as the dominate male of the pack and is viewing the rest of you as equals. Something to try is putting her on all fours with one hand on her shoulders and one on her back. Push down a little (not hard). Do this when she is showing signs of dominance like jumping. To get her to stop biting you. encourage her to bite her toys. Don't make too big a deal about it because it might turn into a fun game for her. Give a yelp when she nibbles at you. Yes a yelp. Yelping is how the rest of her litter showed her that she was playing to rough. Once she has stopped give her a treat. Positive reinforcement training will help out a lot

this must stop now dont worry about why worry about stoping this. A dogs teeth are never allowed to touch human skin and I mean never. This pup is only one year old so is still very much a puppy they do not mature untill about two years old. Nip this in the bud now the very next time this happens and every time it happens untill the dog know that it is not okay to bite you! Here is what you need to do get an empty soda can put about 10 to 15 pennies in it and put duct tape over the top. Carrie it on you get the dog to demonstrate the unwanted habit shake the can loudly then in a firm tone say NO BITE dont yell or scream at her just use a firm tone. She will be starteld by the noise and will let go when she dose reward her and say good girl no bite. Repeat these steps each and ever time she displays the unwanted habbit it will stop. Remember patientce and consistancy are the most important tools you have to train your dog.

dogs dont really get out of thier "Puppy stage" fully till they are 2 and a half to 3 years old. My best friend is a dog breeder, so i have seen her train alot of puppies.
Maybe your husband is more strick with her and she knows he is the boss??? and does she think he is the master? Like does he feed her and walk her most? I would try spending more time with the dog and try giving her alot of attention and do more things like feed her and take her on walks so she will see you more as the boss too. sorry if i didnt help out too much but that is just what i would try!!

Its all about being a pack leader. You should NEVER EVER let your dog go above you and be bossing you around like that. It must be Stopped NOW. Or it may get worse. DO an obedience training with her, you must stand straight and not reaching down to her when you look at her, or to pet her to praise her. There are SO MANY things you may not realize that is giving her a signal to be top dog over you and your daughter. If the dog bite at your or with your daughter, I would even smack the dog and say HARD NO! Smack under the chin. I do not normally recommend hitting or smacking a dog, but biting is VERY serious. YOU and your daughter MUST come down HARD and put the dog in her place. PERIOD.

Believe it or not, dogs can be jealouse over a human too.Seems how its a female, maybe it is trying to dominate over you and your daughter and doesnt like you being around your husband because she "claimed him"This sounds like human women too, you know how almost all women are competitive and jeasous?Maybe she is competing.YOU should watch dog whisperer or google it....he knows everything about dogs and will help a lot.....give it a try and look it up!Dog whisperer.

She is still very much a puppy. Just a suggestion, but I think obedience lessons would be great for her, with you taking her for training. So that she can learn that you are boss as well as your husband. She needs to be put back down the ladder, try getting up her with a stern voice when she does it and maybe your husband needs to become more stern with her.

We had the same problem with our Airedale Terrier, she always bit my mom, my sister, and my heels but not my dad's.
Our vet said it was just part of her personality, she's an alpha breed.
I'm assuming it's part of ur dog's personality too.
Anyway, It got so bad eventually my dad went to a hotel for 11 days.
During those days she grew closer to us and adapted to his not being there.
When he came back she favored us over him. Now she loves all of us equally.
Hope this helps!!!
God bless.

Your dog sees your husband as the Apha male. He is her master and she is obedient to him and would not do it to him.
True story. This is the way dogs are thinking. She answers to your husband only. Watch her, I am not kidding.
My son has a lab and this dog obeys him only. He drags me down the street, but would never do it to my son. He pretty much sees my son as his boss. My son is the Alpha in our house. It has to do with the pack order. She needs to be disciplined by you to get your position in the pack.

She sees your husband as leader of the pack and you and your daughter as below her on the pecking order. You need to change that as quickly as possible. If it is allowed to continue more problems will arise and it will escalate and she could end up seriously biting you or your daughter one day.
