Your doing it the way you should, but when you rinse it out use cool water instead of hot, this will help you avoid split ends and frizz.

After you shampoo your hair and rinse with water, squeeze out the excess water from the hair.. like twist the end of your hair and blot out the water. After doing that, take a little conditioner and spread out in your palm and slowly apply on the top(/or outside) of the hair. It's not required to apply the conditioner in the scalp.
If required take another small amount of conditioner and try working until the end of your hair. Leave it for 2-5 mins and the rinse with water.

yeah if you have dry hair I wouldn't use dove. that is the correct way to use conditioner, but you should rince out the conditioner in cold water it will help a little. I would also try using a different shampoo and conditioner, a good one is Paul mitchell sleek look, it is more expensive then dove but it is worth the money and you only have to use half as much ( because it works)

GREAT HAIR recipe:
1] use shampoo and conditioner for your hair type [ dry, oily, dandruff, extra volume, etc.
2] comb out tangles before washing
3] wet hair. Apply shampoo to scalp, and scrub about as hard as you brush your teeth. Don't pile hair on your head, and don't scrub the shafts of the hair. Rinse thoroughly.
4] apply conditioner to hair shafts, not scalp. Gently rub thru hair shafts. Rinse thoroughly.
5] gently squeeze out excess water, and blot hair dry with a towel.
6] comb out tangles with a wide tooth comb, not a brush
7] avoid using dryers, curlers, irons when possible.
8] use a deep conditioner on your hair 1 - 2 times a week.
9] be sure to trim hair every 8 weeks or so, to prevent split ends

yes your method of using conditioner is correct I know this because I am a qualified cosmetologist, and dove products are an excellent choice.for dry and rough hair i would recommend you having a oil treatment ,you can buy a hair treatment and sit under a dryer with a plastic cap for extremely dry hair half a hour would be fine giving yourself hair treatments every two weeks for about six weeks and you should see a drastic change.

That's the right way to do it. Unfortunately, you may have to try several brands before you find one that you like.
