Teriyaki sauce is traditionally made by mixing and heating four ingredients: Mirin, sugar, soy sauce, and sake (or occasionally another alcohol). These may all be in equal quantities or varied by the recipe. The sauce is boiled and reduced to the desired thickness before it is used to marinate meat. The meat is then grilled or broiled. Sometimes ginger is added, and the final dish may be garnished with green onions.

this is an awesome recipe for Terakyi sauce... I have made it a few times and it tastes good and is really simple to make...

Teriyaki Sauce

1/4 cup soy sauce (soy sauce)

1 cup water (I used 1 cup beef broth instead of 1 cup water)

fresh grated ginger (about 1 Tbs. or to your taste) (I used about 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp powdered ginger)

3 tablespoons brown sugar

1 minced garlic clove

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 cup cold water

1. Combine 1 cup water, soy sauce, brown sugar and garlic and ginger in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

2. Dissolve corn starch in 1/4 cup of cold water and add to sauce.

3. Stir constantly to allow the sauce to thicken.

4. If the sauce is too thick add a little water or soy sauce to thin.

I don't bother to cook it in a separate pot, I just mix the ingredients together, first mixing the cornstarch and cold water together and then add the rest of the ingredients.. and then add it to your stir fry after you have cooked the vegies....
