It helps a little with the shaking. Not much. My father and uncle had this. The medication can work quite well in initial stages but as the illness progresses it becomes less and less effective. Michael J Fox had emergency surgery for his Parkinsons. The medication seems to control his but only a little. During filming of his shows he keeps his hands busy doing things or out of sight because they shake. Its also a very strong effort on his part to keep from shaking.

The medication Carbidopa/Levodopa is intended to take away the rigidity associated with Parkinsons, so when you take it, it actually makes the tremors noticable. Michael J Fox is probably maxed out on the drugs for Parkinsons, so it makes his tremors much more noticable.
Ironically, I just spoke with a neurologist about this.
Im a RN, but Parkinsons/neurological disorders are not my specialty.

Parkinson's disease is a chronic disorder that requires broad-based management including patient and family education, support group services, general wellness maintenance, exercise, and nutrition. At present, there is no cure for PD, but medications or surgery can provide relief from the symptoms. Recently, Botox injections are being investigated as a non-FDA approved possible experimental treatment.
