You sound like you are old enough to have some say in this. Ask them why they want you to homeschool. Then make a list of pros and cons about why you would want to homeschool/not homeschool. Ask them to do the same.

If they won't make a list for you, chances are they really aren't up to homeschooling, either. It's a lot of hard work. But it can be very rewarding. The important thing is communication -- and be sure to have some extra-curricular activities that get you out among people your own age.

I wasn't homeschooled, but tutored plenty who were. Part of it depends on what the reasons are for your parents choosing homeschooling and how long they have thought about it. When a violent event occurs in a school or with national coverage, suddenly a bunch of parents want to homeschool. About 80% of those kids are back in public school before the end of the schoolyear because they had a knee jerk reaction rather than actually thinking the whole thing through.

Are you a self-starter or do you feel you could be a self starter? If not, then homeschooling isn't for you. Also, is there a second car? To homeschool in most states, one of the parents has to be stay-at-home. If staying at home means there is no vehicle for that parent to drive during the school day, many of the enrichment activities that homeschooled kids enjoy are eliminated. That makes it so much less fun and educational.

I would also add that if they are not homeschooling for religious reasons, try to find a secular group and talk to those kids as well. You usually can find them on the internet by typing in your city and homeschool.

Hope that helps.

I was home schooled for 8 years of my childhood it was a horrible experience. The lack of friends and feeling of deep loneliness made me suicidal. If your parents are worried about what you are being taught in school say for religious reasons. Argue that the world is a dark place that you will some day have to experience on your own and if they don't let you develop proper social skills by constantly sheltering you. Then you will not have the proper tools to go out into the world and live a normal life. Explain that they should try taking a proactive stance to your life and help educate you with there beliefs and morals, while using the world outside of there realm of influence as a back drop to explain there perspectives. Censorship is not the way to go it will leave you blinded and defenceless you will be taken advantage of by others for your eventually total lack of street smarts. TRUST ME IVE BEEN THERE. IT SUCKS.

I agree that our education system has been lacking and that home schooling may be beneficial. Having said that the social skills that you need in life are just as important to be successful. I have known people with a great education but lacked the social skills to even get in the door at some places. So if you want to be home schooled be sure to do social activities outside of this, like sports, clubs, music, etc...

Home schooling is amazing if you want to do it. My best friend was h.s. along w/ her brothers & sisters. They are now h.s their children. Because of how fantastic they are, I plan to h.s when I have children. They are all amazing at all social settings & are not weird at all. They have all been involved w/ other groups of home schoolers & have lots of friends. They all have great jobs & are very successful in the world.
It isn't as difficult as you may think from what I have seen. They follow a lot of the Waldorf philosophy of teaching. It is really cool. If you want more info. you can e-mail me & I can put you in contact w/ my friend who runs her h.s group in California.

this is great!!!.........for me
but i suggest that you try it first..
its great, first of all you have so much control of your study hours unlike of that normal school
second, it's your home... i mean no pressure, relaxing and do what you want...

well if your that social kind of person, i don't suggest you taking this up... but even i'm home schooled, i got time going out with my friends and more time than going to a normal school...

im saying this because when i was 15, myself has gone through this home school for 2 normal school years (it's kinda expensive so i have to go to a school)... and because of that i can clearly compare home school from normal school...
i'm a 17 yr old man, so normal school is great because i got to see cute and lovely girl classmates/schoolmates which i missed out on my home school years and i got to meet more peers...

that's it, to make it short...
if you want TIME and enjoy - take home school
if you like to see girls/boys or your a social kind of person - take school

hope this helps...based on experience

I don't get home schooled, but my cousin just finished. On his expierence, he hates it. He doesn't really have much friends because of it. He graduated with a dinner with his parents. It's best if you stay at a public or private school.

Trust me, home school sucks. You dont have the joy of being alongside your friends and learning. If you get homeschooled, then it is just you and your parents alone = NO FUN!!
