No you don't have to but most people do. If you do, the mail comes back to you if it doesn't reach the sender!

Yes, if for any reason the mail is not deliverable then without a return address (yours), it would just go into a dead mail file.
Of course, if you have know doubt that the recipient well get it then a return address isn;t necessary.The mail will take an envelope an process as normal even if thereis no return address.

By mail,do you mean posting a letter? If so, you don't need to include your address,unless you want a reply. But if your sending a letter where you are abusive or rude,there are ways of tracking down your letter.
