Spanish as in from Spain? Because Selena was Mexican. Maybe you could look up a list of famous Spanish people on Google. =)

If you try to impress your teacher and get an easy project as well:

"Miguel Cervantes de Saavedra" [from Spain]
Author of Don Quijote de La Mancha
[The Equivalent of Shakespeare]

"Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz"
Mexican nun, who dressed as a man in order to go to school, learned "nahuatl" mexican native language by the age of three, among other langauges

"Gabriel Garcia Marquez"
Colombian author... Nobel Prize winner
An amazing person overall...

Have you thought of Frida Kahlo? She's a fascinating person, albeit a little eccentric. With her you get art, politics, alternative lifestyle, tragedy - lots to present about.

She was a Mexican painter and wife of famous Mexican muralist Diego Rivera.

PS: Salma Hayek starred in a movie about Frida.

I assumed it was for a Spanish language class, if you must choose a Spaniard, then I suggest artist Salvador Dalí, who was really eccentric. Or how about Pablo Picasso?
These are people whose lives were fascinating and whose works of art are now treasures.

Spanish is someone from Spain, Selena isn't, you meant a Spanish speker, in that case you should do it, Isabel Allend.

If you mean Spanish-speaking, I would do Che Guevara, but I know a lot of people don't like him, so maybe that's not the best choice...
EDIT: just remembered - Salvador Dali.
